Short open tags

Post by duvien » Thu Mar 02, 2006 5:00 pm

Just thought i post this up. I came across a thread: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic ... #msg230234 which discusses about open short tags
I've kinda had that problem at times too, not just with JD-WP, but some other components too, and the reason turned out to be that my PHP installation was configured to not accept short open tags (
cheers,
SASHI

You should also see your servers error_log (if using apache) as there can be loads of clues in there - some mod_security rules recently cause saving of sections and categories not to work and result in 500 error or blank page (depending on the server configuration)

So also check error_log, normaly you can do this in plesk or CPanel, or if you have ssh then you probably know where to look anyway.

Another vote for this - thanks so much for posting this because allowing short tags has allowed me to get 2 components working, I really think this should be a FAQ... thx again  8)

I just want to add that for development purposes, I've set up Joomla on my localhost and I've been adding pretty much every component/module/plugin out there.

The amazing this is that everytime I do a global search on the components/modules/plugins, I seem to find a short tag almost every time. Sometimes it affects the installation, sometimes it doesn't, but regardless, I cannot believe short tags should even be used anymore for any development of Joomla add-ons.
