No, I believe it's not limited to Open Source extensions. All kinds of Licenses are supported.
Thanks! The Extensions page is a great addition to the Joomla! community!

@Vimes
The extension site is for both open source and commercial components/modules/mambots/plugins, so you can put Jomres in there as well.

Cheers for the swift response Gents.
Tonie: Am I that transparent?
Whoops, forgot what I really wanted to say -> Thanks for setting this up Joomla team. A central extension info repository thingy is a fab idea and I'm sure it's going to be a huge addition to the Joomla family circle.

Re: Discussion about: It's Time to Celebrate the Freedom — Yet Again!
To the developers:
God bless you all. I remember reading some very uncharitable commentary in the Forge Feedback section of the forum regarding the interface, layout and quirks of Sourceforge. It was and still is, first and foremost a developers' tool. In summary, there was a lot of unjustified grumbling. We ought to take a minute to remember that good things come to those who wait and this announcement is proof that we were being listened to, even if tangible results weren't immediately available to the public. Dev team, you guys have outdone yourselves (once again!). Chalk up a new Firefox homepage tab folks, cheers on a job well done.

Now your prayers have been answered!

Really cool stuff. You guys deserve some kind of award. It don't want to imagine how much work it is/was to get all these informations together.

Templates are not extensions ? You've got every other part of the CMS listed in categories except templates..

I'm sure they'll add a section for them, it only makes sense to keep everything centralized.

Let's get one thing straight, I didn't have a lot to do with the creation of the site . All credits should be directed at Cy, Graham, Ole, Brian, Andy, Lorenzo and others that I am probably forgetting now. They have created this masterpiece.

I think that the authors of the extentions should state the License they use themselves..hornos wrote:GNU/GPL mention is missing in most extensions descriptions...

Templates may be added to the site eventually but right now we want to focus on the existing extension types. There were a number of reasons not to launch with site template listings:
- fear of this site becoming a "Template Showcase"
- change of naming conventions and usage in upcoming releases
- sheer amount of work involved with compiling a fair representation of available site templates upon launch

Wow.
Someone must have spent a lot of time gathering that list of extensions.
