Fantastic. You couldn't find deeper meaning.
I'm hoping you meant " Fantastic. You couldn't find a deeper meaning"
The way you have it sounds sarcastic
I like it . . . It's extremely marketable and cute with lots of meaning!

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
To be a bit positive: I like the meaning of the word, too
Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
I don't like the new name at first glance, but I don't care as long as the developers are here I'm here. I'm sure the name will grow on me.
I guess what I don't like about it is when I say the name to someone I will have to spell it out for them, and I can see them repeating the name wrong just trying to pronounce it correctly. Where as with mambo everyone knew the correct spelling (atleast in the english language).
As long as product is good I could care less what they call it.

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
Joomla pronounced in Dutch reminded me of Domela: Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis, founder of the socialist movement in the Netherlands, born in Amsterdam 1846, died in 1919. And in his time socialism was still about people .

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
Even beeing a new arrived to this comunity, I really didn´t want to let go the chance to give my support (if it matters) to the dev team.
The name sounds weird at this moment in my native language (Portuguese), but hey, maybe it will grow on us with time.
Anyway it´s not about the name, it´s about the people.
Congratulations,
Mário

Hey guys, the new name sounds great - congrats - I like the meaning, kinda reminds me of the ubuntu linux philosophy.

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
At first i was a bit baffled. I really had to re-read it a few times to remember it. But the meaning is beautiful and let google fill-up with more then three hits with the name. Should be interesting to see that grow :-)

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
Cool name. The CMS should stand out from the crowd with a name like Joomla! Like the meaning too - as has already been mentioned - in a similar sort of spirit to Ubuntu.
Great work and many thanks.

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
Bash me ... but if I would use a CMS because of it's name, I would look for another CMS
Btw., the new name has a strong visual resemblance with Jamba! (also having an exclamation mark), which is a german company selling ring tones. Maybe that's why I don't really like the name.

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
Well... Bit of an anti-climax for me. At first glance, Joomla! isn't really doing it for me. I do like the meaning though. And the name will likely grow on me. As someone said, I use the system for the system, not its name.
I am *so* glad that there is now a name and we can go forward
Question though. In the press release it refers to Joomla! v1.0.0. Does that mean that the dev has changed plans and will not keep the numbering sequence arrived at with Mambo?

My sentiments exactly here. It doesn't really grab me.
I thought it would have been nice to have more "corporate" sounding name to give it the professional edge.
In any case I'm not overly concerned about the name it's a good representation of progress though. Having said that, I know the dev team have been working tirelessly and you guys deserve more credit than we can ever give.

hi,
Even i was expecting a corporate kind of name.
But anyway it sounds catchy and i think
everyone will get used to it.
Waiting for the logo to be chosen.
Cheers,

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
funny, i was waiting for the announcement with the anticipation yesterday. then, today, I completely forgot about it - was a bit busy.
"Joomla" huh? well, it no longer rhymes with my name, but having read the meaning, i do not think a better name could have been chosen. it goes well with the spirit of the community, albeit not too well with my name. but i can live with that. =)
can't wait to see what happens from hereonforth.
a big congrats!!!

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
Congrats!
This is very exciting. I'm busy working on several Mambo-based websites for my company and I'm actually looking forward to upgrading them to Joomla. I've been playing with the 4.5.3 version for several months and am quite impressed with what the dev team has accomplished.
Thanks!
-martin.

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
I think its very clever. Everyone is going to notice the name, it's not going to be mistaken for anything else - like a dance or some other software, and it is short, easy, and fun to say. In addition, the team was able to get the trademark registered and there are a ton of available domains for it. I don't think there could have been anything better.
...and I'm not just saying that because I was the one that suggested it.

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
so, today has been a day of days - we have a new name YAY!!
i must admit my first reaction when i got the message, was: lol, thinking about it a bit more - i can imagine that the same reaction would have been received when ppl first heard the words "mambo" and after saying 576 times over in my head i am already warming to it. now i am looking forward the new logo, slogan and first offical release.
i think it goes without saying how much we all appreciate the accumulative efforts of the core devs & everyone else who played a part insuring the survival of this community i have come to know & love being a part of.
its also given me the (much needed) kick up the butt to get working on some of our community focussed projects, which will be going live soon!!
cheers & greetings from buenos aires!!

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
Thanks to all the team for the time and effort put into choosing a new name. I don't *exactly* hate the name, but I don't like it. Love the meaning behind it, appreciate the work involved in finding it, but it is a name that will be a VERY hard sell into the business world (which is where most of my clients are) and its a name that will always have to be spelled out. (I'm not even sure HOW its supposed to be pronounced!)
The uniqueness of the name will make marketing the brand easier, and I think it is really cool that it is a real Arabic word, with a good meaning, so I just hope the brand makes its mark quickly so that people like me don't have to give too many spelling lessons!

Re: Project Name Chosen- Discussion
You wouldn't believe how hard finding a name with...
I certainly didn't... and on top of all that getting a consensus from a large number of people was next to impossible
I think that we have the advantage of a truly unique name, and as such Joomla! will be what we make of it. It would be nice to see it become a part of the web vocabulary just as Google, Yahoo, Mambo and others have done.
I would politely disagree with Elpie (just this once ), I have seen and been involved with selling much weirder names to very large business's. In the end what Joomla! is, will speak much more loudly than what its called.
Anyway... we have a name and now the job changes to making it the Best CMS in the world!
/me thinks it is already
- Absolutely no other IT related product out there
- All TLD's available
- Low result on Google etc
- No Trademark issues
- As little as is possible (never 100% possible) international language problems.

I just wanna say congrats to the new name Joomla! .... as others said maybe it fits the CMS or it will grow on you ..... I know it will for me. Because if you truly believe in the product then it will justify whatever it is called. Cheers!
btw is it a girl or a boy?
