Hi everyone! (my first message here on Joomla!)
I'm wondering if a public school web site would be considered non-profit.
Thanks...

Re: School use considered non-profit?
Hi Testing123,
Our definition of non-profits here is rather broad, and definitely has room for public schools and other NPO/gov't organizations.

Schools are definately non-profit.
I've decided to use Joomla as the cms platform for my district's web site redesign (Fall / Winter 2005).
http://www.berkshire.k12.oh.us is our current site.
http://www.1hs.org/beta/berkshire is our BETA site.
I'm working with nearby school districts to collaborate on using Joomla to manage a school district web site. Let me know if you're interested. Additional documentation can be found on my blog at: www.1hs.org/blog.

Wow, Eric, look at all that Joomla! going in the Ohio K-12 environment! That is awesome! I bookmarked many of the open source school sites you have out there for later reading. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Amy. I've definately been burning the midnight oil (literally) lately to get things up and running.
I had been planning on rolling this Joomla install out onto a new Dell 2850 rack server... but.. our ISP which does our hosting is (sigh) "finally" getting on board with hosting in a linux environment. Which means that I won't have to shell out two grand on a server and then worry about locking it down myself. I'll let them worry about the security issues (which btw aren't that many).
All in all I'm soooo looking forward to rolling this out. The second phase will be training some of the core staff on how to post / update to the web site.
Anyways, thanks for the complement. Sometimes I feel like I work for the "complaint department" - so those really help to perk my spirits.
Always glad to collaborate. I have some additional "security" tips I'd like to share with fellow educators... drop me a line.

Dear Eric,
You're way ahead of me and I hope you can help with a little perspective:
- I understand the basic Joomla installation; just got it running.
- What browsers do you use for Admin and users??
- Questions about the school environment:
- Does you school mix MAC and PC? What issues do you see with that?
- Are there any problems interacting as Admin, from a MAC??
I need to leave a running system this Spring, with most support people using MAC...
Thanks for your help!

Browsers and OS shouldn't be an issue as long as your design is cross-browser compatible.
