Donating to OSM?

Post by TheSaint » Tue Mar 14, 2006 11:53 pm

http://www.joomla.orgy/content/view/689/79/

I just noticed the little blue banner at the top-right of each joomla.orgy page recently. Is there any other way to donate besides Paypal? I'm not too keen on giving Paypal a hefty portion of any donation unless absolutely necessary. Last time I checked, their fees are still on the high side. How about mailing in a check? Are there any OSM team members that such a capability here in the U.S.? If Paypal is the only way to go, so be it, but what about other options? Thanks!

I used my credit card.

Where was the huge announcement????

Everyone, dig in and give what you can. Read the page the blue banner is linked to where they outline some needs we can EASILY meet!

Through Paypal?

I didn't see any option to directly charge to a credit card unless I'm going blind...

Good catch on the lack of a press release. I didn't see a news splash on either the OSM or Joomla sites. Perhaps it is in the works?

Guys, if you want to help out the effort and want to add the banner to the corner of your sites, you can put this code

Code: Select all

<script src="http://www.joomla.org/donate_ribbon.js"></script>

right under the tag in your pages/templates.

Cheers!

Thanks guys. It might work out easier for those people in smaller countries where mailing in a check might be more cost prohibitive that Paypal would be the better choice. But for large centralized areas such as the U.S., Canada, Germany, France etc perhaps there could be a collection point for dropping the note in the mail. Aren't Paypal fees in the range of 2.5% per transaction for the receiver of the funds? I'd rather just slap a $.39 stamp on it and let OSM keep more of the money if possible.

Props again on the feedback and I'm glad to hear that all of the proper paperwork has been filed. Props again on the banner, perhaps we could even get some other common sizes like 468x60 and have them rotated on our sites as well? Great work all around, it has been appreciated.

We'll post financial summary reports after the end of each month.  This will probably be the most reliable as there will be income derived from other methods eventually (eg, surface mail, a Joomla Shop, etc).  It also holds us accountable to you people :)

If you're caught eating any more complementary airline peanuts on the way to the Linux Expo then we're going to call for an auditor! Such senseless waste will not be tolerated! :D

Switching gears... That Joomla shop also sounds like a good place to spend a wad of cash. We can't wait to get our Joomla Bling-Bling!

When are we going to have t-shirts for sale? There was talk awhile back -- I'd get some.

It'd be good if Mr. Serious was able to wear something more comfortable than a suit and tie, too!

Come on---let's get those t-shirts ready!

Very good! There are sites like CafeExpress that will handle all of the business side for you. You just send in your design, tell them what you want to sell then you get a piece of every sale, as do they. Might be a good way to get started, see what the market is, w/out a huge committment of time?

just a thought... http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/

btw - I am NOT associated with them -- there are probably others, as well.

Cheers.

Donations by Other Methods

If you wish to donate to Joomla via direct bank deposit or mail a cheque or money order, please use the contact us on the Open Source Matters site for details.

It looks like we're seeing progress. I sent an email through the form. Hopefully we'll be able to mail in our donations in the near future. I'll update this thread as soon as we get a response.
