Marketing test: Cache and scroll through the pages really quickly to see what jumps out to the average "Don't Make Me Think" surfer. These caught my eye:

Retro looking? Here´s one more try:
have to admit I wouldn´t use it, though... I think that style is not really fitting for a CMS.
I like several of the so-far-posted ones... those playing with the double OO and so on
Re: New Logo
Here's a few ideas to add to the shortlist,
One of the concepts that need to be kept in mind for this logo is that it needs to be able to communicate a concept. For these comps, I tried to relate the concept of containing or containment. While the term Jomla! can intone the sense of community, the core value that makes this happen is that Joomla! is *the* way to manage and disseminate that otherwise unruly content.
Remember the UPS, the IBM, and the starbucks logos (oddly enough, all things that end up in my office ) all command a concept and beautiful simplicity.
For the record, mambolove.com's logo looks like polished pumkin barf-'70s style.

Now its starting to look like something else How about modifying it so that no fingers overlap either?

I like the middle top one here, but it might look a bit too much like a recycle bin and give the "trash" association?

Awesome suggestions for a logo. I must ask - what kind of software do you use to create these logos?

I agree, but wouldn’t it look a lot better it had more mass and fill to it? Perhaps try moving the "claws" closer together??
I also fear that the many colors will make it difficult to use on a webpage as it has a background that perhaps hit's one of them.

Re: New Logo
Come on Joomla!
Arms and legs represent what the community brings to the project.
The head is the Core Team.
Joomla! is the whole and express the happiness and the excitement of working together.
It is inspired of the old logo because every community need to refer to its history to know itself...

well, just the usual graphic programs I suppose
Re: New Logo
Just curious, the hand print we all love looks more like a claw print and it seems realy fimilar just cant place where I have seen it before.
Can the designer explain if it is original or did he get it from somewhere else?

Apart from the odd one or two which use 3D rendered images, I'd guess most of these logos are being produced in one of the following programs which could probably be considered the basic designer's toolkit.
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Macromedia Fireworks - Anyone still use Freehand?
Paintshop Pro

Hi urquharttownson,
i love peekmambo´s logo, i like the clear save colors you have choosen for it, i am very pleased with Asenine Wide as the new home font and i appreciate very much the lying eight as a symbol for unity and infinity. So i put it all together for a new one.
Best regards,
Joern

Re: New Logo
As I seem to caused a bit of confusion, I've knocked this up quickly to illustrate exactly what I meant by raising the option of exploring a co-branding agreement with OSI
The hand icon is just in there as an illustrative device, the key thing to note is the two overlapping O's in the Joomla, one the OSI Open Source Logo, the other using pretty much the same blue as used on the OpenSourceMatters site.
Together this gives us three brands working together in one logo - the full logo itself for Joomla plus the OSI logo, identifying Joomla as being a open source platform and the blue O as a nod back to OSM - I'm assuming here that the OSM name will be staying on as a distinct collective identity for the Core Team.
Obviously this type of logo would depend entirely on OSI willingness to licence their trademarked logo for use by Joomla and and conditions they place on its usage but a logo of this type would give a strong brand image to Joomla, promote Joomla as an open source product and promote OSI into the bargain, which would hopefully mean that its wins all round for everyone.
