Hi,

Here is my logo proposal.

It is based on african art with a part of south africa's flag colors. The symbol is the union between people, the intersection between ideas

Although you're right about the similarities, I also see quite distinct differences between the others and peek's proposed hand.
From another perspective: It does make a good logo, otherwise Google, Microsoft and MSNBC wouldn't have such logo's either... and they undoubtedly payed top bucks for having them created..
If the hand would resemble another logo, I'd say it resembles Google's Desktop logo more than any of the others shown here..
I like the hand; I'm trying to thing of something else, but the hand keeps coming back to me...

I agree... I think that there are enough similarities and differences to envoke a good feeling about it.  The hand logo is in the order of a rainbow (from thumb to finger) whereas the other are not.  The use of basic identifyable primary colors embraces the old "power in simplicity" that has made this CMS famous.  I think that the logo should envoke the same feelings.. power (by using the multicolored hand) and simplicity (using the basic, "boring" text for the Joomla name).  My $0.02 (or am I up to $0.06 now  ;))

For me it´s the same like every single letter of joomla! ... it´s already out there. Kokopelli, hands, cornucopia, everyone would probably have his/her own associations. It may never totally fit to my personal opinions. But hopefully for most of all the people it fits best as possible. I am not a designer, but i guess a lot of things have to mentioned. E.g. colors, forms, golden section, clarity, message and so on. I like to do things right now, that i normally don´t work on. And maybe it´s a little input for the "real designers". In any case: it makes a lot of fun ;D
Best regards,
Jörn

yes you are right,
if we can modify the colors, it can be more nicer than before.

Comparison with other, more well-known, simple shapes. I think a simple shape adds to versatility, as demonstrated with the Apple logo.

Not sure I like the hand on this point either. How about making it... simpler somehow? Details - like the ears on the puma - can be added of course, but it is the large shape that is recognized and in this context the details should not play a vital part.

Your design is nice. I just somehow feel like going to Pizza Hut for lunch. Maybe something a bit more 3D without such a colorful existance. The same for the hand idea. It's too much and too close to other known brands. I'm hoping to do something this weekend myself If I can find the time.

I think the two circles of the orange logo - mean it "together"....
