Re: New Logo
That's nice....
Maybe something more generic too, so we are not too fixed on the fact that this is a good CMS or a very good CMS, people aren't much interested in that, they get buzzed up on the end result, on what it enables them to do, on what it gives them the power to do. If you capture that essence and communicate it at the first impression...wow, that's really powerful!
Let's not beat around the bush..."Where do you want to go today?" happens to be one of the best slogans out there, and I don't need to even tell you who it belongs to do I?
Joomla - imagine the possibilities...
(I am not sure if that is already a trademark of someone else though)
Sell it big, don't box it up...give people the world, then show them the universe...think big...

It is not a figure 8 it is an infinty symbol. The cool thing is that the text part of the logo is echoed in the symbolic logo.
It is clean and elegant. I can see it gaining visual recognition like the old Mambo flower very quickly.
This is probably my new favorite (replacing the hand) but is there a trademark issue with this being so similar to the mambo flower? All of the symbology in it is obviously different and wonderfully creative, but give it a tilt and it essentially superimposes on the mambo logo. Any lawyers out there?

I don't think is that close.. Wadda you think?

Re: New Logo
The flower logo was generated from an asterisk in a particular font...I guess the contention is that if the asterisk is flattened and super-imposed upon the new coloured Joomla icon, there might be more of a similarity - each design contains 6 spokes...since the Mambo flower logo IS twisted a bit, I do not see there would be an issue, I do not see the flower when I look at this new design...

Original photo as a motif for inspiration and graphis design works:

I don't say I like any graphics above or I don't like ...
I just show (using examples) a way of thinking to build graphic logo - from inspiration to graphic form.

I see the blobs on the end as heads, reflecting an aerial view of 6 people, just like the nice wooden sculpture.

I guess this is the point...the asterisk (Mambo flower) has no relation to heads or joining of forces or any of the like...it is derived from the asterisk, used in Linux et al coding as a key stroke to do certain things...that was how it was seen. Robert Castley had the original concept and asked me about this and I took the idea and developed it. He made a version with the asterisk 'flat' and I took it and twisted it, knowing that it was the figure that was important to devs and the like, i then added a slant on that, giving it individuality whilst retaining the meaning and function of the code behind the icon.
This is a different kettle of fish, which is why I am not convinced there is a relation, though at face value there is a similarity, that I guess is the issue, and I can see that. I still come back to the hand...and that is where I will punch my marker into the earth and say..'Here I stand'...respect where respect is due...pat yourselves on the back everyone, you have all just realised the power of a motivated community...

Re: New Logo
How will the favicon look like?
It should match, if not be the same, no?
Another thought: The logo should fit in every color scheme of website templates - if you put it in the footer or in the newsfeed-reader or as a reference for "powered by" it should be kind of "neutral" or modest. If it stands out too much or conflicts with the rest of the site people will not use it for their Joomla-Sites.
I still like the first idea: Just a J with a circle. A circle is a very archaic symbol of "all together", "wholeness", understood in a split second without thinking and with the same meaning in all cultures. It transports the idea of community. Like the wood sculpture of Ghana (which is a circle not by accident), but 3D and therefore to complex. K-I-S-S

I guess, Joomla - what means "all together" - includes the darlings and the blockheads, and besides them everybody else, who wants to be a part of it.
This is the claim of the Joomla community - and not the other way round.
A logo should be as acceptable for a wide variety of users as Joomla itself. Don't agree?

yes, i agree.
What i opined is: "all" should be the demand for all of us and may not become a too "dogmatic attitude".
I guess, it is nearly impossible to do it in the right manner for everyone. So the compromise in this one point maybe, to define "how many are everybody" (absolute and relativly) and "who is everybody" (for example, VIP´s).
Best regards,
Joern

Can one of you designers take this further> I see Peeks colorful hands playing the bongos!

Haven't seen any suggestions that include this kind of idea. Perhaps this will spark something...
