Can we stay away from combinations of red and black text for the Joomla text?

My suggestion would be to substitute the blue from the OSM forum template in place of the red..

Nickdesigner wrote:A logo is not really to advertise a brand, it is to re-enforce it.  Advertising is achieved using public relations (PR) and marketing - if you check the big players like Microsoft, Adobe, Macromedia et al they all have their own ways of marketing, but they are not using the logo to advertise - they are selling the benefits of using this or that software, they are showing the end result, the lifestyle...the logo just happens to be on the page, not very big in the corner, as a mark, a signature.

Once a brand is established in people hearts and minds using marketing and backed up with good products, then you can have a logo on it's own and build all kinds of associations with it...that's the feeling connection..

Firstly..it communicates to you who it is..

Secondly it brings into your mind and emotions associations you have with that brand...

Remember this is a re-brand, so it has it's own unique challenges..people have become enamored with Mambo and I have to tell you that quite a few members of the dev team really loved the flower thing...we had many discussions about it...

In my experience of being in marketing and design for over 10 years and working with Glaxo, Reckitt Benkiser, Footjoy (to name drop a few!) I have been involved in many projects and seen good and really bad logos...with this in mind I have to say once again that the Peek hand and it's derivatives is really on the money...if that proof of concept is taken and refined, it really will rock...it has the right ingredients and the right attitude...

just my 2 pence..

Nick

We certainly view marketing and advertisement differently in terms of what a logo's purpose is. We also have a complete different opinion on the hand logo.

That's alright. I do think there are quite a few graphically talented members in the community. It's great to see all the different ideas.

Quaoar wrote:This is a variation of scatscat's idea with the Kokopelli:

This logo fits the name Joomla. Without knowing what Joomla stands for, my first thought via just the pronunciation would be a tribal custom of some sort. At minimum something new, something unknown, something foreign. Knowing what the definition of Joomla is, a tribal custom still stands as a somewhat close concept like "All Together". Tribe, tribal, community, group, etc...

This was a good idea. Maybe not in this form, but in concept, I like it. I feel it's a much closer match for the name than that of a multicolored hand that reminds me of several other companies logo's and the slogan of "Proud as a Peacock". I never quite understood how Mambo ended up with a flower for a logo. A poorly designed flower at that. It doesn't say anything about the CMS or what it's connection is. Doesn't look good. The Mambo flower was a meaningless example of what connection a logo should have to a product in my own opinion. The equivalent of MicroSoft using a donkey instead of a window for it's logo.

I also saw a logo with bongo drums. Another good concept along these lines.

I think the red & black come from the joomla.org site :)

Okay...I know it's an infinity symbol...then drop the people in the circle symbol which has the shape of the mambo flower anyways...it's no longer mambo it's joomla!

It is not a figure 8 it is an infinty symbol.  The cool thing is that the text part of the logo is echoed in the symbolic logo.

It is clean and elegant.  I can see it gaining visual recognition like the old Mambo flower very quickly.

WOW!!!

This is one friggin awesome community.  Man, they just keep going...

So I thought I would help too!  I mean, I have work to do but somehow I feel compelled..

So here is my first effort...

BTW, I think after being around this name for awhile I am starting to like it.  I can see a kind of certain something in it that is kind of taking hold.

Possible slogans...

Joomla! - Are You?
Joomla! - The power of unity!
Joomla! - The Joom and the La!

Some more geared towards selling what Joomla is to people...
Joomla! - Build your site with ease!
Joomla! - Even a monkey could build your site! (was thinking about monkeys and clowns for mascots:)
Joomla! - All you need to have a powerful website!

See, if you are going to sell it, make it your slogan to proove to people that they can do it easier if they use Joomla!

And here is my first logo....

Hello. That's why I mentioned the below.

"This was a good idea. Maybe not in this form, but in concept."

I thought the concept was great. Maybe not exactly in this form, font, layout. Maybe the original
logo designer would do some other layouts with this logo type.

Yes this is a viable logo because of the ethnic design matches the joomla word ... I also like what santapec made because the bird means freedom = free (open source that is) and it is shaped like a J .... very good works here :)

I just made this using the idea of rings (can be spheres too with a little work) inside a big one, like all the international communities that are united inside the big "mother" community of OSM.

Okay, maybe I'm the only one that thinks there's too much going on in the logo above...so I guess I'll just show what I was talking about when I said lose the "infinity symbol". I think it's a strong symbol but is downplayed by the "infinity" symbol. Well here it is...the typestyle can change...I'm sure there's infinate possibilities out there...but I think this font suits it.

i think 200px X 150px or  300px X 200px is suitable.

So that we can compare many logos in one time.

Having submited way way back I have been following this thread and I'm constantly amazed at the speed and quality designs are coming in.

I have to say that the hand is my favourite. I don't think that comparing color schemes with other logos should be a big issue.

The hand seems to look good in a variety of shades and colors -  it's clean, and simple as a logo should be. How simple is firefox?

I'd definately be leaning toward the hand
