How to install extensions on the server?
How to install extensions on the server? I have downloaded an extension file. Where should I upload to? under which directory? After that, how to install it? please show me the way thanks.
Re: How to install extensions on the server?
go into the backend and look under the installer menu item...
Select which type of extention you are installing, Component, Module, Mambot or Template
Then you can browse to the zip file you downloaded and hit the install button...
Simple as that!

Sorry, what is backend? for your information, I have deleted the installation directory. Will it affected anything?
Re: How to install extensions on the server?
back-end is: http://www.yourdomain.com/administrator/index.php
login with your very own username and password.
and last, deleting installation folder is recommended after a fresh install.

Re: How to install extensions on the server?
hi, cheechein.
i suggest you to download and familiarize yourself with joomla interface.
here the link: http://www.redevolution.com/component/o ... Itemid,41/
as your question is a very basic and i don't think we got that much time of explaining step by steyp on how to login,
how to install as it is covered in the manual.
hope you'd understand.

Re: How to install extensions on the server?
hi, I'm following this process to instal the gig calendar module, and every time I hit the button upload and instal I get the following error:
Upload component - Upload Failed
ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
[ Continue ... ]
Upload component - Failed
Installation file not found:
/home/virtual/site397/fst/var/www/html/krema/media/install_443e75ad71716/
[ Continue ... ]
I've tryed to install similar components and still get the same error. I'm stuck here, I'd really apreciate if someone can tell me what's going on here.
thanx!

Hi zerep.
I think it is the gig calender module problems. The zip file u downloaded miss out the xml file. So when u try to install it, it wont let u.. By the way, u can try to install any other module and see if it is successful. If yes, that means is the gig calender module got problems. If other module also facing the same problems, I will suggest u to delete and reupload all your file again and do a re installing and hope it works.
Best Regards

Re: How to install extensions on the server?
Is your site running with safe_mode=on? This can be checked in System --> System info in the administrator backend.

Re: How to install extensions on the server?
in fact yes, how can I turn it off? if turned off, would this solved the problem?
thank you!
thank you!
Re: How to install extensions on the server?
If turned off, it would solve your problem. If you are on shared hosting, only your hoster can turn it off. Some hosters have a policy not to do this.

Re: How to install extensions on the server?
I'll try to contact my hosting company (mediatemple) to see what happens, have you heard about mediatemple having this type of policy?
Re: How to install extensions on the server?
Sorry, I only have experience with my own hoster. With Joomla 1.5, it will be possible to install components with safe_mode = on , but that version isn't out yet, and will take a while.
