Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
I got lazy and didn't read ALL the posts, but I read most of them. I had a lot of the same problems upgrading that everyone else has. I did not try a fresh install though. Are the same problems existing with the fresh install? If so, is it bad to have the link up there for Joomla 1.0.8 and having a newbie come along trying to find the best CMS and try 1.0.8 and have it not work correctly? They might not give us (sorry, i consider myself part of the team lol) a 2nd chance... Just food for thought.

yes theres an issue with Joomla! 1.0.8 ..bug comming up like in login module. if your joomla is for production revert back to 1.0.7 until this issues will be fix at 1.0.9. lets wait for the release.

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
Thanks dev team for hard work.
But it would be have stably working release J! Series 1.0.x. For example 1.0.9 or 1.0.10 (1.0.8 unfortunately has many mistakes).

My point is that I think it might be bad publicity to have available a release that has known issues. If someone who has never used Joomla! before comes around and downloads 1.0.8 and can't get it to work right, they might be turned off and not use Joomla! again. They may also tell others. I dunno... just my thoughts.
Personally, I LOVE Joomla! and I appreciate all the hard work the dev team and the community puts into this great CMS. If the user searches the forums, they would understand this as well, but often times, people aren't patient enough to research. Their loss, but it could hurt Joomla! as well.

That's because Bill Gates hates Macintosh.

Thanks, Tonie, for the specific facts on the bug count. I just have not had a single problem with 1.0.8 and was wondering what the concern was!

there's a typo in current SVN changelog.php:
instead of
228-Feb-2006 Rey Gigataras
instead of
28-Feb-2006 Rey Gigataras

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
There's a problem when upgrading with the patch from 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 to 1.0.8.
Please give some hints at the upgrading forum:

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
Hi,
I am that new person who is having problems with 1.0.8. I had installed 1.0.7 awhile back and it was wonderful, so I took it down and then worked on a practice site on my home computer. Joomla 1.0.8 came out in the meantime. After some learning, I then installed the new 1.0.8 and started building for visitors, but it's not going as smooth as before, particularly with logins. I'm reading in the forums, seeing that many are sticking with or going back to 1.0.7. Should I wipe out the 1.0.8 and install 1.0.7 before I go any farther? It would be disastrous to open up my community/small town site only to have people unable to login properly. Any advice?
Anna

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
Joomla 1.0.8 fixes some sever security issues. You should stick with it. If you look at the developer blog in the section Rey Gigataras, you'll find a list of threads with a solution to the known problems in 1.0.8. The developer blog can be found on the developer network if you scroll down. (Developer network is the nice big button on the top of this page labeld "Developers")

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
Ok, thank you Hackwar. Appreciate advice to stay w/1.0.8 for security reasons. I'll try to make-do. Guess I'll have to start following the developer's posts and be more pro-active about dealing w/the bugs... because I love the possibilities for me w/Joomla. Anna
Upgrade Joomla! 1.0.8 and Community Builder
We have a live site with Joomla! 1.0.1 and and Community Builder RC1. We would like to upgrade, but am concerned about the comments here about 1.0.8. Is this a do-able project, or should we wait for a bit more stability?
Thanks -- Tony

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
You should definitely update. The holes closed in the versions after 1.0.1 far outweigh the problems with 1.0.8

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
Would it be safe to say the 1.5 is so close to being released that it would be unwise to create new sites using 1.08?

Re: Discussion about: Joomla! 1.0.8 Released
That's good to know because I install new Joomla! sites every week. The news item, "Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ..." and the many posts to the forum lead me to believe Joomla! 1.5 would be released any day now. Upgrading is time consuming for the many sites I administer.
NOTE: I intended my original post (and this reply) to appear in the 1.5 Discussion. I am sorry for posting in the wrong category.
