The Antonio Pizzigati Prize For Software in the Public Interest $10,000

Post by Slideri812 » Wed Apr 26, 2006 9:26 pm

Hi everyone.

This website has been an honor and a pleasure to work on. This website was built by the Florence and Frances Family Fund of Tides Foundation for and with the Pizzigati family.

The following is taken form the site:
"Within the world of public interest computing on behalf of social change organizations, no significant prize has up to now existed. We at Tides Foundation believe that the Antonio Pizzigati Prize for Software in the Public Interest can both honor the field and add more value to the work of those who labor within it."

The Site:
http://www.pizzigatiprize.org/

If you are a developer of software (a real developer, not users of applications) for NPO's then I strongly urge you to visit the site and apply for the prize. Currently the prize is limited to the US.

About the work...
We do all of the design, hosting and what nots in-house. We work with a great programer named Jean Marc Bevilacqua ([email protected]) who makles sure we don't have bugs and that things go smoothly. This is our third of several projects with JM.

We used Joomla! and SMF. If you find something wrong with the site contact me directly ([email protected]).

Joomla was the best choice for this project because it meet the following criteria:
1. Is an OS application per the foundation (we were using Joomla and preaching the message anyway)
2. Is database driven
3. Has true separation of content and presentation
4. Has been easy to learn and to use by the organization
5. Is scalable so that almost any need imaginable can be accommodated in the future

I just want to give a shout out to the core team; Thank you soo much!! Because of your works we are able to helps lots of people who need it. This site is but one example of the great things that can be done to help others.

So please, take a look and let the feedback roll :)

Slideri812,

Thanks for the posting of this, it's a great opportunity for those in our community that are doing some amazing things to be recognized for their hard work.  I'll make sure to pass this along through our groups we work with.

Best,
Ryan

Thanx Coz!!

The more people that know about the prize, the better for all of us.

Please note that the site has a forums section. One of the purposes of the forums is for peer review of submitted applications. This is very unique as it gives the community to oopportunityto download and try these apps, then give feedback about them to the Prize via the forums.

It is not clear how much weight these reviews carry, but they are taken into account.

Thanks everyone.
