Moderator Removed my Post because "adult content oriented"?????

I submitted my site to the showcase to get it yanked a couple of hours later with a PM stating that it was "adult content oriented".  WHAT???

Its a personal website.  It may have (oh no!) dirty words but there's NO pornography or nudity or anything like that.  I was told it was because there are t-shirts for sale that say c*ck, but show me an average person's blog that doesn't have a bad word in it somewhere.  I even found several sites with cursing and bad photos IN the showcase, yet when I pointed that out, she simply said she'd "look into it".

Its bull.  How many 12 year olds have webservers with Joomla installed AND visit this forum... AND the site showcase.  Furthermore, of those, how many have never seen (or said) the word c*ck?

All our moderators are under strict instructions to keep the forums clean. You can also see in the rules:

Do not link to any site that contains adult content, sexually oriented material, or might otherwise be considered offensive. Any post containing an inappropriate link will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning.

Your site was reviewed by a few of the moderating team (there are over 50 of us BTW) and the content as well as the adult orientated ads were deemed inappropriate for this forum. I'm not sure what else you would like us to do?

If you see any posts that you consider offensive, please use the 'report to moderator' link as explained in the rules.

Personally, I do not use words that you make reference to, not in my everyday speech or ever. It's my choice, you can make your own choice, but our community has rules, and our moderators do a great job.

Edit: Addition:
These forums are open to the internet spiders etc etc, so their content is available to anyone with internet access. Another reason to keep our forums clean and give no cause for offense.

You're right.  I've been a Joomla member since the begining and a Mambo person for many years before that.  With Mambo my personal site was never moderated as being too "adult".  Also, there was nothing dirty or negative in the post that would show on an internet search.

Furthermore, when there are other sites that have the same words and similarly "adult" photos in the Showcase, I feel as there must be some other reason for the deletion.  I simply want to be able to post my personal, joomla-driven site in the showcase as others have been allowed.

It would be nice if the core team would respect all those that participate in this software and provide a sound environment in which we can all work towards future achievements. Unfortunately, what you say in public is adverse to what is written in private. I've told you several times that the rules need looked at, discussed, and possibly changed to offer a more broad perspective towards all in the community. This included the advertisement rules in the forums in which I noticed was changed to accommodate within a week of my statements regarding such requests for business advertisement.

Is binary, octal and hexadecimal a foreign language?  Is the language of computing different for any land or culture? I don't think so. Machine code does not differ.

Unfortunately there were incidents of people abusing the ability to delete their own posts which wreaked havoc upon the readability of threads making them almost nonsensical.  You can always report your own post to a moderator with a note that it is a duplicate post, and they will take care of removing it for you.

As a long time administrator of forum softwares, I would then request that the software be removed and replaced with vBulletin brand software that allows for a finer grain control. There is no reason whatsoever that a person should not be able to delete their own posts.

SMF allows us to enable or disable the user permission of deleting posts. It's not the forum software As mmmedia posted above, we have disabled this option so it is not abused.

There's no big deal, if you want to 'delete' your post, just use the 'modify' button and make changes to it, perhaps a "*post deleted*"

You are quite right Joe.  I will talk with Brad to see if we can do something about that, in the mean time people can send a PM to the moderator of the board or one of the Global Admins or report another post in the same thread with a note that there are duplicate posts in the thread.  As I don't think the duplicate postings happen very often, it shouldn't be that much of an issue.
