I guess this will be no problem if there is a clean joomla installation, but what if i have added Joomla components like Multi Site Manager Pro and eZine?

then you will have to wait anyway till those extensions are rewritten to use the new API.

To add....

I urge anyone who uses a component that thyey can'[t live without to start asking the developers of that project if their system has been designed to work with the new API and if not ask them if they have intentions of supporting 1.5 when it is a stable release...

For one it will alert some devs who may not be keeping up with current events here that something new is coming out that might flood them with support requests
2 - it will maybe get them to load up an alpha to do some initial testing and
3 - Maybe they will come by and see what changes are about to occur so that they can work on whatever upgrades are needed and
4 - If they say they will not support or don't know if they will be compatible at least give you some idea that you will have to look for some other alternative that can get you the same functionality...

You are the best. Much appreciated you letting me off the hook; you sure didn't have, too and it means much to me that you did.  Good luck!  Amy

Hm. What happened to "will be released this month"? I was very excited when I typed in "joomla.org" in my browser this morning, expecting to find a new news item saying that Joomla 1.5 is out in beta, but no. How are things going?

Hey man, read it correctly....

"Joomla! 1.5 beta will be released this month"

...see, it will do exactly what it says on the can. It will be released at the end of THIS month!  :P

(It's because we love Joomla so much, we'll wait patiently till she's ready...  ;) )

sorry, but you´re wrong. THIS month really means APRIL ->  Sunday, 02 April 2006 is the date the text was written.
they planned to release it in april...but as you can see.....they didn´t release it yet.

My guess will be the same thing that they always say about potential release dates...

"All dates posted in the roadmap are tentative and subject to change as the code warrants it"

Unless someone is actually accusing the Devs of Fluffing off we should just leave them be!

All this sniping sure isn't going to make them work any faster!
In fact it probably slows them down because they lose the urge to code!

Noone is "sniping" or hasseling or stressing the dev. to do anything.
People are just curious and exited about something they really looking forward to.

Relax a bit and don't see every comment as "dark" or "negative".

Is there an update on the release date for 1.5?
Does one have to register for the beta copy of so where?

Thanks

Hello rickfry,
please take a look at the roadmap. That is the update for the release date. On the registering thing: No, you don't have to really register for the copy. You can get the most recent version allways from the SVN. I'm not sure, but I think you have to register for that one. (Been a while since I set that up for me) Nevertheless, its free and no big problem.

The problem with thigns being on the horizon is that you can never get to it. Its a bit like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You know its there but no matter how hard you try it always moves just beyond reach.

To be sure, something is always "on the horizon", but if your eyes are always only there, you may miss out on something that's right here that might be a really good thing.  If you pass it up, you may not get a chance to enjoy it.

I don't always hold to this kind of thinking, but you know, with software and hardware, things are almost always bound to improve.  Meanwhile, let's not forget what we have - ain't all that bad folks  ;)

Wait a minute my friend, I m not sniping any one. I was hoping that we might have the 1.5 by the end of April and postponed 2 installations till we have 1.5, now I'm not sure how long it might approximately take. Well I can always install the 1.0.8, but wanted to try the new version as it promises much more. I don't want to want to take the "urge to code" from our friends who do the coding, I don't think they are doing it just for one me or you and their spirits and enthusiasm behind Joomla is so vulnerable.

i am quoting from the Joomla site the following:
Joomla! 1.5 beta will be released this month
wich was posted by the Joomla team on April 2. Does anybody know why there is neither
  • a release as posted
nor
  • any explanation of delay(wich could always happen, and would be understandable)
the Alpha, however, is available for download.
i was surprised, normally in open source projects, people tend NOT to give a timespan of their release dates, wich is -again- understandable. To see that a date was given and NOT performed as planned, makes me frustrated and dissapointed. That was the first time for me to feel a kind of unprofessional touch with Joomla. Strange...

Actualy it's fairly typical. Something inevitably goes wrong in the last few days right up to release (trust me, I have to deal with this kind of stuff on a daily basis) and when people are working on it in spare time voluntarily, you can have even more things go wrong that prevent work  from being done (life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes.)

Go easy on them, be a little patient, and we'll be rewarded soon enough.

having managed a team of programmers who are working full time and still missed deadline because of last minute hitches I fully understand why this has been delayed. If anyone isn't happy about the delay I would suggest that they dip there hand in there pocket and pay a software team to write it for them. I cant believe that anyone who is benefiting from the unpaid work of these guys has the gall to complain. get a life.

Main point in last few questions is not "why hasn't it been released" (would've been "just" a beta anyway..), but "why hasn't there been any communication about the delay and updated announcement about release"?!
For a newcomer (lots of first time posters here..), looking at the main announcement from April 2nd and then looking for the release, it must indeed seem strange and thus, questions are fully justified.

But as has been said more or less clearly: use a (patched) 1.0.8 for now, be happy with all those working components, because once this much asked-for beta is out, we're still a long way from stable release, and maybe even longer before your favorite extension works with 1.5! Use what you got now, don't update to new versions as soon as they're out, is my best advice from these last three mambo & joomla years..
Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing.
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. AE

do people complaining about timescale  read the bug reports on the alpha version?
they are here on this forum..
you can see what still needs sorting out .. and some of the stuff the devs have been busy sorting out.

yeah the beta is coming but its pretty obvious there's been a load a work to do!
... and i reckon a beta released when its ready is better than one that is rushed.

there is a roadmap - but fixing bugs and recoding proiblems depends on how ealry alpha testers report them!
really hard to timetable ..

an alpha-version is there for downloading:
http://forge.joomla.org/sf/frs/do/viewR ... _0_alpha_2

(it is - as you can see: 1.1.0 Alpha 2 dated may 2nd... - NOT the 1.5) with 8.2 MB unpacked.

did i see it first or is this the nightly build (...it is still the 2nd of may) which someone mentioned before? if you klick on
DOWNLOAD 1.0.8 and then going up in the directory-tree you will find this one. because
of the different timezones i can´t see WHEN it was released..... just downloaded it and
will give it a try.
sorry, if this is a double-post but this thread is much toooooooo big to see all the things....

best regards,
hajo

p.s.: after installation the jommla identified itself as "** Joomla! 1.1.0 Alpha Release2 [06-02-2006] **"

p.p.s.: you can see the frontend at http://www.sehnde.info/index.php. it really seems blazing fast!
