I just started using joomla a few days ago. I am looking for a component that will offer downloads for registered users to access. Is there such a component in the extensions library? I have been looking but I can't seem to find one.

There are some different components which let you control download for your site. Have a look at this list:

Will recommend you to try DOCMan, which will do what you need.
