Joomla has an !
Yes, it is the picky editor in me, rearing its ugly head again...
The proper name of this CMS is Joomla! and it needs to be written with the exclamation point each and every time it appears, especially on Official Joomla! Site...but I see in both menus and content that it is not consistently used properly.
Now, perhaps it may seem like a pain to add the exclamation point and one might wonder if perhaps it would have been better to not have included it...however, what is done is done...the name does have an exclamation point and must therefore be consistenly written that way.
I will continue to be a stickler on this, as it is important to be consistent with branding.

Yahoo! er.. yes, I mean, although I never use it, it should be added on official documents, on- or offline.

Thanks for the heads up. Have corrected the obvious ones that I could see on our sites.
If people find more (which I'm sure there are) coudl they just indicate on this thread and one of us will rectify.
And yes for the record the official name is
Joomla!

This forum is tex. called 'Official Joomla Websites - Feedback/Information'
And the descriptions with users name are like 'Joomla Hero' , 'Joomla Core Member'
Top board is called: 'Joomla Core Team Announcements '
+ 2 times Joomla in that forums subforums descriptions
Gave in when checking though the forums. Approx !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +/- are missing

I've made a dent into these
As regards posts, thats a different matter and not something we need to worry about.
However, official literature and things like official forum area names and descriptions should follow correct naming convention

I normally try to use Joomla! in 'official' use, but just to lazy to use the exclamation point when replying on the forum.

Re: Joomla has a !
Noticed that the perhaps most important articles on the main site also need a couple of !´s
Main Menu->What is Joomla! ? (article headline and in text)
http://www.joomla.org/content/view/12/26/
"Top banner" : Cutting Edge Content Management->Details (Update link perhaps to the above article? )
http://www.joomla.org/content/view/154/52/ What is Joomla?

Thanks, Ole. I think I have changed all references. Also fixed the small piece about the Joomla! book.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the quick response!
I just noticed one more thing...the question mark needs to be next to the word, with no space between:
Joomla!?
rather than Joomla! ?
It looks a bit awkward (and to be honest, in my own writing I end up convoluting sentences to avoid having one end in Joomla!), but if the name is Joomla! it would be just as if it were "Where is Jennifer?" not "Where is Jennifer ?"

Yes we are, but as it is the Official sites I'd say there is some call for it

Or to look at it another way...
I doubt you would miss-spell your own name when you write it

You are so very skilled at this and SO PLEASANT about it, too. Frequently, people who are that detail oriented are very irritated with the rest of us slackers who seem never to learn. But, not you, and I think that is an amazing gift you have! Thanks! Joomla! is better because of you.
ALL of you, Shayne, the stuff you guys are doing on the development documentation side gives me HOURS of interesting reading, truth told. Thanks to you and your team, as well.

Amy...you are so kind!
You have no idea how much I appreciate your compliments...especially the fact that you noticed that though I care about the details, I care about people more. I am sometimes shocked at how rude people can be on boards...yes, even in Joomla! forums...when it does not take much effort to be polite, kind, considerate, etc.
When all is said and done, how successful we are, how well-done our work, how profitable our businesses, how amazing our innovations and ideas, how right we are (or think we are) in our opinions...all of these things will fade away.
Who we are, how we loved, what we stood for...these will remain, these are what really matter.

Wow! You blow me away, lady.
#1) "Who we are, how we loved, what we stood for...these will remain, these are what really matter." --> goes into your signature line.
#2) "You noticed that though I care about the details, I care about people more." --> Yes, that is really, really amazing about you.
#3) "when it does not take much effort to be polite, kind, considerate, etc." --> You are right, although some of us have obviously had MUCH more practice! I am a newbie! Patience is advised at all times, with me.
#4) "I am sometimes shocked at how rude people can be on boards...yes, even in Joomla! forums" --> sometimes attempts to be silly do not translate well. I have been the unfortunate silly person from time to time, as well!
I think there are many unhappy people, and Jennifer, they do not "get it" that there are people on the other end of the post with real feelings. It is bizarre, but, for me, sometimes the feelings are even MORE intense in this virtual world, because you sometimes cannot "get ahold of the person" to resolve the problems...so, it lingers, and I hate that.
OK - you are super amazing and you made my day with your words. Go have an ice cream! And, make it a chocolate! Double-chocolate, I think! Amy

Yes, this is true. Let's all of us take the effort to spell Joomla! correctly. That will help ease the confusion of how to spell Joomla!.

Re: Joomla has a !
I think adding an exclamation point in a brand name is not necessarily the best idea; on the one hand it is hard for people to remember to use it, and on the other it is even harder to avoid awkward formations as in the case of interrogative sentences "Joomla!?"
Can you imagine Microsoft Windows called Windows!?
You get my point...

Re: Joomla has a !
Trans - you are not suggesting we change the name, are you? I guess I don't get your point.
We are where we are -- and Joomla! has an exclamation point. Right now, that is the point.
Maybe not a wise move? Perhaps, but, that is kind of beside the point. If we just use the exclamation point, then, I think no further points are required.
How about this - one point on the post count point count for every time we use the exclamation point. One point lost when we Joomla! without it?
And, I think I'd add more special characters behind Windows, if you get my point! lol...Amy...just joking around.

Amy, honestly I meant no respect to Windows
(Prefix of respect intentionally missing)
On the other hand, I am not the one to decide whether to change things or not; this is just what my poor mind can see from a linguistic point of view.

I was the one disrespecting Windows by suggesting the addition of LOTS of special characters after the word -- like they do to designate cussing. It was funny! < things ALWAYS lose their humor when explained. heavy sigh >

Re: Joomla has an !
Hello all! As I had noted in one of the earlier posts in this thread, the exclamation point does produce some awkwardness, but as Amy said, what is done is done, and we now have to make the best of it.
I have given quite a bit of thought to how to deal with the issue, other than simply going way, way, way, out of my way to try to never end a sentence with Joomla!, so that the punctuation can be consistently applied.
As mentioned previously, any punctuation mark following Joomla! needs to be right next to the word...
Joomla!? rather than Joomla! ?
Joomla!; and Joomla!, rather than Joomla! ; and Joomla!,
HOWEVER
I do believe that the one exception would be the exclamation point. I don't think it should be doubled when Joomla! occurs at the end of a sentence that is an exclamation...actually, there is no need to have an exclamation point in a Joomla! sentence...I say just end it in a period (full-stop). The exclamatory feeling is already being communicated in the name of Joomla! that it is just overboard to add more.
For example, "I love Joomla!." rather than "I love Joomla!!"
What do you all think?

I think you are wrong! I LOVE Joomla!!!!!
< okay - that was another joke lol -- yes, i think you are correct. if an exclamation point is needed on the end of a sentence that ends in Joomla! - skip the exclamation point. I mean, afterall, it is the English language and we have TONS of exceptions for many things. I say throw another log on the fire. No doubles. ... unless you REALLY mean it!!! >
Joomla!?, Joomla!; Joomla!, - yes
But, I love Joomla!!! <--- correct, as well!

can't you just put Joomla in your 'bad words' file and have the forum automatically replace it with 'Joomla!'?

Can't you not update a thread over a month old..
I'll put it on my to do list, to add to the spell checker, but no provision to automatically replace. Sorry.
