Email discussion list
Does anyone know of an email discussion list component for Joomla, or one that can be adapted for this purpose? My members want to be able to send an email that all participating members will receive, and reply to all as well. This is different of course from the mass email which administrators can use - and I don't want to give permission to anyone else to use it.
Thanks

Re: Email discussion list
I would recommend that you use the 100% non-joomla mailman application for this. There really is noting that comes close to it. And if you use the Mailman subscribe module from http://forge.joomla.org/sf/go/proj1101......

There is a good thread about email newsletter components here:

Re: Email discussion list
Thanks Brian. You are indeed a Joomla Hero. I downloaded Mailman and damn! the instructions are complicated. It sounds like you have to have direct access to your own server to make it work. Are you interested in installing it on my shared server for a small fee or do you know anyone who can do it?
Thanks again,
Buck

There aren't any others mentioned there, I don't think. It is a pretty complete discussion about what was available a few months ago for all types of email communications for Joomla.
There are many other non-Joomla 2-way email lists available besides mailman:

Wikipedia has a number of good entries on the subject including these links:

As you may have read in the other thread, I agree with Brian: mailman is easy to use and very powerful. Consider shared hosting for this as it is difficult to deploy. The nice thing about having your own installation is that it can be customized...but only by a pro. Mailman is written in Python, not as popular of a programming language as PHP. Good luck!

Awesome, Gsbe! In all my years of scouring the web I have never run across some of these! Thanks so much!

Re: Email discussion list
Now you have the choice to use Dada Mail, which is a full-fledged email discussion list application written in Perl. I just finished publishing a Joomla! component that bridges a Dada Mail installation into your Joomla! website. The Joomla! component basically is designed to take over control of subscription management and archive browsing, but also provides access to all of the Dada Mail settings. There are still some operations, such as setting up lists and server email accounts, that require use of the native Dada Mail web interface. But once you get your list setup, you can manage it completely within your Joomla! administrator account. I also wrote a Community Builder plug-in that provides member list subscribe/unsubscribe control inside CB profiles.
Search Joomla! Extensions for "Dada Mail" or go to http://joomlander.net to download these two extensions.
Enjoy!
