Sadly these options often get abused. It also adds to the moderator load when they have to clean up the abuse sometimes brough about by the mis-use of these features.

Shame really isn't it. Maybe if you setup the options so that your only allowed to applaud or smite every 24 hours it might prevent this.  ;)

I think that option creates more problems than what it solves. Users shouldn't be cast aside by how much (or how little) knowledge they have. We don't need to let the egos get out of hand, not to mention the abuse issues that Brad mentioned. Let's just focus on the question/answer part and not worry too much about how many little "pats on the back" we get right?
