Joomla shop

Post by eyezberg » Thu Aug 10, 2006 4:37 pm

From the Logo details page:
Permission is not granted to use the logo on any form of merchandise. An official Joomla! shop will be provided for this purpose. If you wish to create variants of the official merchandise then you should contact the shop administrator who will add your variant to the official shop.

I'd like to get a Tshirt, any news on this?
This text is from long ago, and as I remember, there were some legals involved in setting up this shop reg. payments or something..?

It's still a WIP.

If you need T-shirts, you might want to visit a local shop ;) No need to get cold.

I don't NEED tshirts, just bought some, but their're all white. I'd like to add that logo, but according to the terms, don't think I could, can I? If I just wear 'em?

Ok, as there is no real answer here, I'll start my Cafepress or other Joomla T-Shirt shop next week.

Well, don't forget the "!" on Joomla!, okay? And, make certain you check around on prices so that you are not charging more than than your competition. ;) ... Amy on location in San Fran awaiting the drawing.

Hi All,

FYI... as Brad mentioned there is a shop and it is being worked on. Its not Cafe Press but was selected out of a number of similar systems as it provided the best quality and a good price.

To go and set up your own shops would only serve to make the hard work that is being done in the background a waste of time and would in fact be against the logo usage guidelines... http://www.joomla.org/content/view/259/70/

I'm just asking that given the number of things that are going on (most importantly the imminent arrival of J!1.5) people understand that sometimes things don't happen as planned for a good reason.

The shop won't happen over night, but it will happen!.

You're selling shampoo as well? ;)

Seriously though, what I'd really like to see in an official Joomla! shop would be an official CD with a manual and collected resources. I realise that'd be a way down the track but it'd be a great way for users to support the project and have something solid to show for it, like the Mozilla Store.

Of course t-shirts, bumper stickers, plush toy mascots or whatever would also be great ;)

Cheers,

Damian
The t-shirts have passed their in house beta testing and survived the Drupal test and we will be releasing them shortly.
10 months later... nada. The T's were ready then, how hard is it to sign up somewhere and sell them? Cafepress took about 5 mins yesterday. So sure, maybe not the, but a shop will happen.
..would in fact be against the logo usage guidelines
So how come those other shops exist?
As I read the page about the logo, it says clearly
The Joomla! logo consists of the logotype and the mark.
(on this page). So if I just use symbol, not the word Joomla!, I'm not using the logo can make whatever I want.

It's also against the rules at Cafepress to use copyrighted images in your merchandise.

So, Cafepress will not let you make unofficial Joomla! merchandise using the Joomla! logo.

And of course the symbol is protected along with the word, I can't understand why you're even wanting to setup your own Joomla! shop when there will be one at some point. If it would be to support the project, then it seems a bit backwards to be going against the project to do it.

Not sure which way your looking at it. If your suggesting that the symbol is not part of the logo, well your incorrect. If you suggesting that in seperating the two you somehow cause the symbol to no longer be Joomla!'s logo then you are wrong again, look at the very bottom and you'll see symbol only versions of the logo exist.

As for the other shops... we are in the process of addressing those.

All I'm saying is, logo = logotype + mark according to that page.
So using the symbol only is not using the logo. The symbol is not the logo. Simple logic.
I'm not wanting to set up a shop, I'm wanting to make a Joomla Tshirt (I'd want to buy it if I could).
It's because I want to wear it, or maybe give away.
"..at some point" is not really satisfactory, considering the Ts exist since 10/05, and setting up a shop takes a few minutes.
I'd rather you adressed the Joomla! shop than those others...

btw, this topic can now be closed, I was just posting this to point out how far overdue this is, that there are already other places where you can get stuff, and that this text leaves room for misuse.. ;)

PS: what are the guys in San Francisco going to be wearing..? :)

Well if you just want to make a t-shirt for yourself, you could always use an iron-on transfer and make your own ;)

Shayne -

I apologize for my catty remarks. I think t-shirts is just one of those silly topics to direct frustration towards. I thought it was harmlessbut, of course, there is always a person involved. I didn't think it through. Man, you are popping up everywhere -- it appears that you have assumed a number of responsibilities in the recent change. We do (really!) appreciate your volunteer efforts - over the years - for the project.
Amy

idigital - are you trying to flame this thing? Although it isn't necessarily the most pleasant thing, Joe is reminding us that we committed to this accomplishment some time ago and there has been no recent communication.

We don't know what all is going on -- honestly, there is not a lot of communication until something has happened -- and the core team has the right to communicate how they choose. But, in long periods of inactivity, this type of questioning often surfaces.

If we were brutally honest, many of us in the community want to know the very answers Joe calls for, truth be known, we are too chicken to ask because we don't want to be considered "trouble makers." Joe is not trying to cause harm, so, let's not turn it into a debate. Please.

Amy, thanks for explaining better than I could've.
I agree the method could've been better, but then, it's always the same..

I don't know if this is the right place, but when the store does get up and running I really think we should sell Johan Janssens Bobbleheads...  that would be AMAZING!!!  Maybe we could have them for all the core devs?

My $.02

I'd get the WHOLE SET! Good idea Ian! lol Funny, but, seriously - very good idea! You ought to do this yourself -- there is no copyright on Andrew Eddie's likeness! (Sorry, Andrew, I want the doll.) Maybe they should be action figures, though. I can see Brad as an action figure. There are also transformers. idk ... give it some more thought ... I think you are ON to something.

Settled then...

I would like to make a request then that it be made mandatory that anybody who would like to remain a part of the core team send me a 3d mould of their head  :)  Or is there some way to do a 3d scan?  How do they make the real ones?  I'm not much of a sculptor...
