[ANSWERED] Submitting news to Joomla - Feedback

Post by firetrapped » Thu Aug 24, 2006 12:09 pm

Hello everyone,

I have been having a little bit of trouble submitting news to Joomla.org. I am kind of lost as to what to do, hence this forum post. I submitted news on Joomla.org last week Tuesday and it has still not been published, since then I have seen around 14 new news articles published.

Having no way to contact Joomla.org , I can only assume that it was not received or something was wrong, so I did resubmit it on Sunday just in case, but still nothing. Is there perhaps a 2 week waiting list or are there guidelines I could have missed to prevent it from being published. It was not a long  news article, It was for the launch of www.joomlajunkie.com a new template provider and I followed all the guidelines.

Anyone else know of anything I may be missing?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Robin,

You are a star, thanks so much, you can imagine how eager we are to get our new website out there, we have been on some other news websites, so traffic has been ok, the problem is we are days away from releasing our first commercial template, so the launch news is getting old.

I just hope I didnt make a mistake on the news submission. ???

Cheers,

Andrew

Hello I am the person in charge of editing and approving 'community news items' submitted to http://www.joomla.org for publishing in our 'community news area'.  And bascially have been in charge of this area since the creation of Joomla! - though for the first 6 months I only assisted the original authorithy in this area Brian Teeman.

Your submission was successfully recieved.  Apologies but the system, does not include a method of indicating that we recieved a submission successfully - maybe something that can be added to the extension we use for the future.

However, your your item was not approved for publishing on the site.

While you met the very brief style guidelines listed on the submission page, you did not meet our internal approval guidelines.
Soon I will make the more detailed/complete style and approval guidelines available to the public.

As a general rule we do not publish news about the launching of sites, especially one that maybe of a commercial nature.
Exceptions are made for Joomla! Powered sites that `showcase`the power and flexibility of Joomla! for the general public, as an example of what can be acheived with Joomla!; we also are more leniant towards Non-Profit NGOs GOs involved in community or humanitarian efforts; or if the site is a Joomla! community site, that aims to promote the use of Joomla! within a specific community or group.
We are especially reluctant to publish about sites which may have a commercial nature, as the launching of a commercial site (even if aimed at the Joomla! community) is not deemed, truly `newsworthy`.

News that might be deemed newsworthy in your area, might be the availability for sale or for free a new template or the offering.
These items we are happy to publish.

Please remember that this area is provided as a service to the community and also serves as displaying the vibrancy of the Joomla! community.
Its purpose is not as a marketing avenue for commercial entities.
Instead it should be viewed always and paramountly as an extension of the marketing arm of project Joomla! itself.
And in the end the decision to publish any news is our own (project Joomla) and there is no appeal process - sorry.

Dont mean to be harsh, our fault for not making these things more explicit and will attempt to rectify this shortfall soon.

Hi Stingrey,

Many thanks for a prompt and detailed reply, I now see what was the problem, however being notified of this by email could have helped to know what should be done to rectify the situation.

To be honest, when submitting the news, I was deciding whether to release with news of a free template or as a launch, now it is obvious, I made the wrong choice ???

We have released a free template so far and I have resubmitted the news and I have been careful to stick to the book!! I completely understand that this cant be used as a means to promote free commercial services and there is a fine line that has to be drawn somewhere.

Please let me know if there are any problems with my last submission,

Many thanks again,

Andrew

Hi Stingrey,

I am having deja vu, I submitted news of a commercial template according to the guidlines in your last post to me, this was done last week Wednesday. I guess there was something wrong with the submission again as it has not been added to the news page. Please can you get back to me as to what mistakes were made in the submission or a reason why it has not been published.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Not all submissions are approved. Joomla is an open source project, and whilst the commercial people who support are acknowledged, often times the sheer volume of commercial news means that some is not approved to give place to more open source news.

This *may* have been the reason it was not approved.
