Discrimination

Post by Annie » Wed Sep 27, 2006 12:20 pm

Hi

I have thought long and hard before coming here and posting this message.  Last week I came to ask about converting from xoops to joomla.  I emailed a member to request information.

What I got back was a total rant about my religion which according to him is fueled by satans deceptions and telling me that I should convert to his religion.  In the general atmosphere that is prevalent in the world today this is not an attitude that is acceptable.

Needless to say I won't be converting to joomla now.

It's a pity that you judge the software (Joomla) on the behavior of one (rude) fellow (?) Joomla user...

this sort of behavior is unacceptable. pleas report t
is to the moderator team to handle. can I assure you that this persons response is not typical. one of the strengths of the joomla community is that it welcomes everyone irrespective of their creeed, nationalality or religion

I'm very sorry to hear this. Joomla! is for everyone, no matter what race or religion. A PM like this doesn't show respect in any wat, and we will never tolerate this on one of the Joomla! sites. I will send you a PM in a few minutes.

Hi All,

Many thanks for the fast reponse to my message.  I was actually just going to walk away and not bother saying anything - I did not want to start problems on this forum.

I kept the email for a week and read it several times and then dismissed it and was going to search elsewhere for another system.  But something about it kept bugging me - As a medium and psychic I am used to such bigotry cropping up occassionally and usually just ignore it and move on.  It really isn't worth my time responding to bigotry and discrimination.

But then I realised that if I don't stand up then other people may get treated in the same way and its not something I would wish to have on my conscience, hence the message today.

Again, many thanks for the fast respnse, and the message has been forwarded to Nathan and I shall now reconsider changing to Joomla.

Why would you mail someone instead of asking on the forums,
and why would you talk about your religion in that mail?
just wondering...

Hi,

I couldn't find the PM link so used the email link.  Simple.

As for mentioning my religion - I didn't - I gave the link to my sites which are mediumship and psychic development groups.  These were the sites I wished to convert from xoops to joomla so it seemed natural to give the links.  I just didn't expect the response I got from a member of a technical group.

Hiya,

Thanks for all the good wishes but I think it would be a good idea to close this discussion rather than let it go on and on.

I am now looking for help on how to convert three sites to one joomla installation.

Fair enough, good luck with your site! I will lock the thread now, so nobody can reply to it any more.
