but one thing do not give me relax. I worry as developer. I have few components developed and some of them commercial. That means that now I should completely ceparate projects for Mambo and Joomla as differense very significant.

Actually, Joomla! 1.5 supports the Joomla! 1.0 API as well, with a "legacy support" parameter which can be switched off or on in the main site configuration. This allows components which comply with Joomla! 1.0 API to also run on Joomla! 1.5. There are very few adaptations needed if you are not using the API exactly, or rely on being executing in the global variables scope. But if your component works with RG_EMULATION OFF, chances are good that your existing component will continue to run in Joomla! 1.5, as well as on Mambo without adaptation, or with extremely slight adaptations. E.g. Community Builder 1.0.x runs from Mambo 4.5.0, through 4.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.5.3, 4.5.4 and hopefully 4.6 as well as Joomla! 1.0 and will also run on Joomla! 1.5. So if you want to stay (long way) backwards and sideways compatible, you can, for now.
Obviously if you want to use the new Joomla! 1.5 API, your component will not run on anything older or different than that. But that's another story...

Re: Discuss : Joomla! 1.5 Beta Release Date Announced
Hi guys (girls?) Well done on the annoucement and pending release of the new baby.
One quick question though... will the beta to beta/RC releases be supported by any upgrade mechanism? If I install the first beta to start changing over my sight (though not going live) will the next beta contain a migration, or will they be throw away?
Just helps to know up front

ANother story is what I am talking about. It is not smart not to use Joomla 1.5 API. If not why it is done. But it is not smart to use it either because after that your component works only on J 1.5.
The only hope that the migration to J1.5 will be quick.

That's one of the smart freedom of choices that Joomla! 1.5 gives into your control.
I could even dream other web-applications API compatibility layers added later, as 1.5 seems to lay out the foundation to this kind of beasts, giving developers and admins even more possibilities.

Totally agree. I am as a developer just dream of thosnad of new features in Joomla. And I am so glad of new API and think it quite flexible and supportive. Now I spend even less time for development.
I just sad of growing difference bitween Joom and Mambo.

I's a bit weird, but according to the graphics , rhuk would have done a code contribution of more
than 80%. I guess it is wrong ...
At first glance this seems a bit strange indeed, but the reasons Andy(Rhuk) is the highest ranked code contributor is because he moved all the code into the svn when we started the Joomla! project a year ago. The stats do tell the truth, u just need to read them right

Re: Discuss : Joomla! 1.5 Beta Release Date Announced
it's a bit off topic but i think my stats for code contribution are high because I did the intial svn imports and have done several moves/copies/tags etc, and each of these actions on each file counts as a commit.
mehdi wrote:Well the announced release date is a good news.
However, I hope the current Joomla 1.5 is already in an advanced state.
I mean I don't want "a fake beta", that is in fact a true alpha (very unstable)
Anyway, I'll download a "nightly build" and take a look....

Re: Discuss : Joomla! 1.5 Beta Release Date Announced
Wow, it has been some kind of a pregnancy but glad to see it come alive on 12th of October in a ceasarian
As Brian said...it is the beginning! Can we please emphasize a little more on the fact that
1. It is BETA and that a beta should not be used on a live site
2. There will be no easy upgrade from Joomla 1.0.x to Joomla 1.5 despite the availability of a migration tool? (which is not similar to upgrade!) I suggest you make a special migration announcement on this topic otherwise the catastophy will be so huge one cannot imagine! Pointing to the specific forum is insufficient is my experience....Strong advise!
Good job gals and guys! You all got my respect!

I couldn't agree more! My boss actually heard about it before I did, and he's how I found out...there's been a desire for LDAP implementation as well as accessibility for a while over here, but 1.0.1x has had to do the trick (and will continue to do so until I've had time to play with/work out 1.5). HUZZAH!
Re: Discuss : Joomla! 1.5 Beta Release Date Announced
yes we must ensure that the message is that 1.5 is for testing only can't be stressed enough.
the same is true for
Joomla 1.5 ... not an upgrade but a new beginning

Re: Discuss : Joomla! 1.5 Beta Release Date Announced
excellent news.
if you are impatient and want to try joomla beta 1.5 before oct. 12th.
go to this site and download nightly build joomla
http://dev.joomla.org/content/view/17/60/
I'd installed this to localhost and works perfect.
this nightly build joomla must be real close to joomla beta 1.5

I've already tested the nightly build versions. I think the beta will be a slightly more different than alpha. I need beta, moreover, as it is an un-changeable system. So all of us can work on it

Not sure if this is in the right place - looking forward to the new release -
Will the current templates work on the new version and if not will they be following the same type of design (1 page theme)

You are right, here in the Netherlands it is 6 hours later, so believe me I am waiting now for the last hour to get it 06.00h in de morning here, 0.00h for the official release time-zone...
But I downed the Nightly version, a daily changed version and it looks real great. Good work.
