Evesham Baptist Church

Post by FredBasset » Mon Sep 19, 2005 8:13 pm

Hi,

Please feel free to browse our site... www.eveshambaptistchurch.org. Still on mambo 4.5.2 at the moment, but will be upgrading to joomla 1.0 when I get a chance! Your comments are most welcome, either here or by contacting the webmaster (me!) via the site.

Thanks,

Tristan

Hi Tristan,

It's funny who you come across on a forum in the middle of nowhere! www.findachurch.co.uk is pointing people looking for a church to your church's web site! It looks good.

It would be interesting to start an RSS share between Christian sites.  I have 4 church sites running and I am sure they would be interested to trade RSS feeds.

Take a look at http://fccparis.org/ , http://bellridge.org/ or http://parispresbyterian.org/

Comments?

BTW I like the Evesham site.  I was until 3 years ago living in Bromley Kent but now in Paris Illinois.

So is findachurch think of going joomla on us then? Joomla is absolutely perfect for what we want for our site - if only I could persuade some other people to start submitting articles!

We have to make the leap to a databased web site to include new features (I'd call them desperately needed or long overdue, actually) and a Joomla!/Mambo expert is currently looking at what we are trying to do and whether this could and should be Joomla! based.

I'm learning Joomla! so that they can talk components, modules and so on and I won't have a blank look on my face!  ;D

Here's a thought ... why not contact the web people at other churches, ones that have sites as full as you'd like yours to be. I'm sure they'd take it as a compliment that you were impressed enough with their web site to get in touch. What you'd be asking about is the process of gathering information and getting people to help.

Here's a few http://www.findachurch.co.uk entries whose web sites are fairly full: Paignton (Palace Avenue) Methodist Church, Haywards Heath Methodist Church, Enfield Evangelical Free Church, Stanmore Baptist Church - all churches away from your area so anything you learn from them shouldn't be seen as you copying a loal church's ideas!

I like the site, I was just wondering if you knew there is a "prayer request" mod that is great for this kind of site, also a day verse and daily proverb which can be displayed on the front page.

I was reading your forum, still real new (i hope it takes off) but I guess someone was admitted to the hospital and send your paryers? Hence the "prayer Request" mod

Like the site,

bz

I set something up for a friend of mine who is a americorp*VISTA in Montana who is from Ohio. Some wat for her to keep in touch with her friends. http://www.ridgehosting.com/bethany/

We already use the Prayer Requests mod - it's the bottom item on the main menu! I did have the 'verse of the day' mod up in the top right corner, but found that it slowed down loading of the main page too much as it had to go off to another site to get the quote. A pity because it was a great feature otherwise.

Just took a look at your site. Overall it looks very good.

I did notice a problem when I looked at the forum you have wrapped.
The SMForum displays W3C compliance badges. Wrapped in Joomla orMambo the pages will not verify.
SMForum generates pages that will validate run in its own window.
Suggest you edit code in forumdirectory/Themes/default/index.template.php so that these are not displayed on a page that does not validate..

Code section as installed:

', $txt['powered_by_mysql'], '
', $txt['powered_by_php'], '

', theme_copyright(), '

', $txt['valid_xhtml'], '
', $txt['valid_css'], '
';

Suggested change if you want to continue to put it i a Wrapper:

', $txt['powered_by_mysql'], '

', theme_copyright(), '

', $txt['powered_by_php'], '
';

Work is what you are doing when you would rather be doing something else....

Oh dear, I thought I'd take another look, see how things are going with your church's site but all I get is this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/eveshamb/public_html/joomla/components/com_sef/sef.php on line 24
