I think you did a great job its the perfect logo....... I prefer glossy logos .... (maybe you can add some gloss to it) . Yep it will nice if you can post some color variations here before people start catching up to that office logo similarity.

I've have never payed attention to the Microsoft Office logo partly due to the fact that I work on a Mac and not a PC. Do I have Microsoft Office for the Mac? Yes I do, but the logo for the Mac version is different than the PC version.

I will explain the simple reason why it is similar. The way the colors lay out follow the color wheel model. Look below:

Image

Microsoft uses the same idea behind their logo.

At this time I am in the process of making modifications to the logo, as requested by the development team. Do they involve change in the colors. As of this time not yet. I have chosen though to develop different color schemes for the logo because of the concern of the similarity. I will present these color combinations to the development team and the final decision will be theirs.

On another note, I would like to thank everyone who voted for and supported my logo. I never expected to be the one on top. It really came as a shock to me...heck...making the top 5 came as a shock. I think many of us, I being one of them, thought that a certain other logo would fly it's way to the top. I feel it's just as deserving as mine and I think the numbers show it with the race being so close.

Once again...thank you.

Thank you my friend.
But to be honest, I though yours was going to win since the first time I saw it. Great concept!

You have done a wonderful job for the logo thank you. I think the idea of similarity is nothing but pure coincidence. Logo reminds the viewer to Microsoft logo because:

1. 4 entities come together
2. colors are the same

other than those Joomla logo is completely different with Microsoft Office logo.

I know logo design is a pretty challenging concept in Graphic Design and branding. I personally salute all of those who master in this field.

Bluesaze,

As of this time I would prefer not to post color combinations until the development teams has had a chance to look at them. I will let them decide whether to post color combinations or not. This in no way means that the community can't post suggestions as to color schemes.

Well, congratulations, I did vote for your logo too!! I particularly liked the glossy one...

And about the colors, I don't think that's a big problem, we should just ask Microsoft to change their colors  :P

Congratulations Again!

Just a note. One of the color combinations still uses the same colors but switches the position of two of the colors to break away from the color wheel model. It still resembles microsoft with the colors but not the pattern.

Congrats Alan! Your logo was in my personal top 5 of all the pre-vote submissions (as was another of the finalists), and it got my vote.

I work solely on Macs, so the MSO logo issue didn't even occur to me... and now that the Windows version of Office logo has been pointed out, it still doesn't particularly bother me (despite the fact that I'm the typical Mac fanatic in terms of my feelings towards micro$oft). I'm sure you and the dev team will come up with something quite acceptable!

Good work!

Congrats Alan! I'm very happy with this result, like I wrote in the voting thread: this was the only logo expressing the idea behind Joomla!
As a designer and design afficionado I know that coincidence does exist. There are so many logo's around, it's impossible to create one that doesn't remind people of other designs. As an Open Office user I haven't seen Microsoft Office in ages, so I don't mind a color resemblance  ;).
What's more important to me is: would I wear it on a t-shirt, and yes, I hope they will be available at LinuxWorld London  :).

Great work Alan

It was between jbird and this one for me. Jbird lost out on icon clarity and visual meaning for this project. Color - imagine how much research/design money Microsoft spent coming up with that color combination? There is nothing wrong with putting folk in a 'color comfort zone' even if it is only subliminal. We are already in the Joomla house, this logo will be for the future.

JBird is absolutely brilliant and surely will find its own niche on the web somewhere.

I do not see what you are trying to prove here. It is simple an insult to compare this logo with a Nazi Swastik and than on top of that posting a link to a Russian site presenting that crap to prove this??? I do not believe this. Any idea how many people you are hurting with this?

Hello Alan,

congratulations on the winner.

It wasn't my first choice of logo, as I'd like to see something more "emotional". But nevertheless, it looks good and transports message which is obviously quite important to many of us.

I wouldn't care about colors, though. There are more companies using the same color scheme, just because of the color circle. So don't mind this. Microsoft has lots of copyrights, but surely not on green orange red & blue.

Just my opinion.

And on the topic of the "swastika": As I'm a german and we've been thorougly trained to avoid anything close to the swastika, I consider myself to be quite sensible to this thing. But the thought never crossed my mind with our new logo. So just skip this swastika thing. Forget it.

Again: Congratulations.

CTPAHHuK can think of the logo any way he pleases. Personally I don't see it. Obviously he's been doing extensive research on the subject. Maybe he would like to read more about the other meanings a swastik had for different cultures long before the Nazi's used it. Here's a little history lesson on it.
