Suggestion for the site showcase

Post by SpilltheBeans » Mon Nov 06, 2006 9:30 pm

I have a suggestion for the site showcase. One thing I've noticed in the showcase forum is that a lot of people put their sites up and say "look at me! look at me!", but they don't want to review other people's sites. So essentially, it looks like only a handful of regulars review most peoples' sites and many sites get 0 or 1 responses. For my part, if I ask for a review, I try to review a couple of sites to give back to the community. In some other webmaster forums, I've seen a policy that says if you want your site reviewed, you must first review 3 sites. Maybe the forum admins here could think of doing something similar. Just something to consider.

Here is Sitepoint's reviews policy for reference:

Not a bad idea at all.. however my only concern is the extra workload involved in checking that a user does 'qualify'.

Will see what the showcase mods have to say on this subject though.. thanks for sharing.

I actually thought about your concern and yes, it is a roadblock. I'm not entirely sure how those two sites (or other sites) enforce such a policy, but I can definitely see that something like this can be done programmatically...would need to mod SMF though. Anyway, whatever the forum admins and moderators can do to encourage people to review other peoples' sites, whether it is this idea or another idea, helps the community be more alive. A lot of the feedback in the showcase is really educational and it would be great to see more participation.
