Making bug-tracker field Mandatory / Emailing /Adding comment to monitoring mail

Post by Beat » Sun Sep 25, 2005 4:02 pm

A few questions (sorry if already asked, or in the RTFM, didn't see):

- How do I make a bug-tracker field Mandatory (I want to make the "Version Reported" mandatory, otherwise we have to ask each time...) ?

- Is there a way to email to a group (e.g. we have created a "testers" and a "3PD" group for giving authorizations to different project items, and like the very convenient management through the matrix (something missing in Joomla 1.0.x ;) ) ?

- Or alternatively, to add a comment to the file release, which would also be emailed to the people monitoring the releases ?

- Is there a way for project admin to view the list of people monitoring an item (or maybe have a count of people monitoring ?) ?

Thanks in advance for your reply,

Making a bug-tracker field Mandatory:

1. Click on Project Admin on the project toolbar
2. Click on Tracker Settings
3. Click on the tracker name in which you want to set mandatory fields
4. Click on the name of the filed that you want to make mandatory aka "required"
5. Check the "Required" box and then "Saved Field"

Do steps 4 and 5 for each field you want to make mandatory.

Re: E-mailing a group:

If you set up a discussion forum that the users you want to reach are "Monitoring" - any posts to that forum (or e-mails to the forum) will be e-mailed to those users monitoring. In SourceForge 4.3 (December timeframe) a project admin will be able to "force monitor" i.e. select project members to monitor items 9the user may of course then choose to opt out.....)

Re:  Add a comment to file release that is then mailed out

What we recommend that you do is for each Package in the File Release system, set up a forum that downloaders set "monitor" on and post to that forum news of updates etc.

Hope these answers help.

Hi Col,
Thanks for the answers.

First item:

Just retried steps 1-5 as above: it is ok for user-defined fields, but the "Reported in Release" system-field only has "enabled" setting. :-\
No "Required" checkbox/popup.  :'(

Do you have a solution for this ?

Good news for my item 2. :)

For my item 3: forum and posts tend to get quickly unforeseeable. I much prefer comments to file releases and to trackers :D, which keep messages much better related to subject. Just wanted to have a way to make sure that project team members get notified...

You are correct that "Reported in Release" and "Fixed in Release" fields cannot be made mandatory. Why - I have not idea  ???
But I've raised  Artifact artf1304 to get an answer.

I suppose you could disable these fields and create two new ones with the same names that you could make mandetory -- but then I doubt they would integrate correctly with the File Release system.

This is a very odd one. Thanks for raising it. I'll let you know when I get an answer.
