Why are RSS feeds messed up for Joomla.org?

Post by doejohn6969 » Thu Dec 14, 2006 3:50 pm

Why doesn't Joomla.org has a autodiscovery of RSS feed? Why doesn't Feed Icon shows up for Joomla.org on Firefox browser? Is it a omission on part of Joomla website or Joomla CMS?

Also, none of the links to feed on left side work!

While we are at it, Why are there 5 different version of RSS feed? Now days all the feed readers support all the formats, then why don't we just offer the one format? It will drastically improve usability by simplifying things, rather than pandering to few tech Nazis who rather kill themselves than have RSS feed not offered in their own format.

This is hilarious ... Joomla is not a word in this website's spellcheck :)

Hi,

the feeds from Joomla.org produce an error, does this have to do with your question.

Here is what I get with RSS bandit:
Joomla! - Main
General Failure
Refresh feed '\Joomla! - Main' failed with error: This XML document does not look like an RSS feed

Great! :)

I think some people had trouble understanding my other questions ... maybe because I put many of them together. I will repeat them one by one here.

  • Why doesn't Joomla.org uses the following tag to make it easy for browswers such as Firefox and IE to auto discover the RSS feed? You know how a feed icon shows up on the Firefox URL bar when you visit forms but not in Joomla.org?
... A tag like this goes into the head section of HTML.
  • Is it only a Joomla.org problem or Joomla CMS?

As you correctly observe this is missing from the template. It's something we will rectify in due course though.

it's a template issue, nothing to do with the Joomla CMS
