as a follow up to http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,9274.0.html
I reckon it is because we are newbies at using forge 'properly', but
the package that has been released is a single zip file, so...
http://developer.joomla.org/sf/frs/do/l ... _templates
from this page, if you place check next to fjt_cortrivenus, and press 'download selected', you get a double zipped item. I could understand this if the package consisted of a series of different files, however, that is not the case.
-------
http://developer.joomla.org/sf/frs/do/v ... ortrivenus
from this page, if you press 'download release', or place check and press 'download selected', you receive
a double zipped package.
If you just press the fjt_cortrivenus.zip link, it arrives as expected.
Is it possible to (ie. could you, pretty please) put into the download routine a test/check and if all that is requested for download (in any form) is 'only a single zip', then the compression routine is not triggered??
Am I making sense -- I have missed sleep trying to figure out what is going on... and how to use forge..

Re: tiny, tiny, compressed issue... and request to SF
followed same process as above, on joomla project release page, and received file called 1.0.1.zip
this was a zipped, Joomla_1.0.0_to1.0.1-Stable_Patch.tar.gz.
Since I am currently working with templates, and their usable format is .zip, if a user follows some of the actions above to try a template, they will end up with the correct file name and extension, but install will fail due to installer not being able to find xml file.
This will impact on all 3pd items... modules, components, bots, templates
page 200 of manual:-
4. Click Download Release.
SourceForge prepares the compressed file in .zip format.
You are automatically prompted to open or save the file.

Re: [A tad important]double zipped downloads [title changed]
ooh, I did not notice the double zipped thing yet... I have just started to download a couple of things.. I have noticed that if you click the actual release, it does seem okay. I did that the other day and had no problems. If you click the checkbox and click on the download selected button, it changes the name of the release... (must be doublezipping). Very confusing and the fact that it renames it very generically is not conducive to downloading multiple files... (and understanding later what you downloaded)
