The benefits of extra designs in the shop
If a user group has a customised design for a shirt/whatever, what benefits are there in submitting that design to the shop ?

Why are you looking for benefits?

Well, if it's a design specific to a location or region, and the act of purchase doesn't invest in the local community in any way by that act, what's the point ?
After all, it would be plainly idiotic to starve the user groups out of gaining any revenue they have in promoting local "user group" specific merchandise when those designs are vendor locked into being part of the Official Store.

Re: The benefits of extra designs in the shop
As with all things in Joomla! this(Merch) is an ongoing project. With out saying officially that this is what would happen, two possibilities are that UG Merch could be either...
a.) Supplied via Printmojo under the Joomla! account with ALL proceeds going to the UG in question.
b.) Supplied via a local(to UG) supplier, but with the frontend being via the Official Joomla! Shop, with all proceeds going directly from the local supplier to the local UG. In other words the Official Shop is simply the face of the purchase.
Other possibilities may be looked at as they come up. But once again I stress that they are all for consideration and I'm not making any commitment to any.
Cheers
Shayne

I do hope though, Shayne, that not "all" proceeds would go to the User Group, but a part to Joomla through OSM.
Otherwise, going through the Official shop looks indeed like the only acceptable solution.

What about this option:
c.) supplied by a local (to UG) supplier, with the Frontend being via the J! shop, with proceeds split between UG and OSM.
The problem with a.) and b.) was that there wasn't any relationship between the UG and OSM and really there needs to be when you're dealing in commercial transactions.

I guess UGs have to be cleared first and the process has yet to be defined.

@Lawrence... thats certainly a possibility as well.
Although from a commercial prospective there isn't a legal requirement fo OSM to be involved. J!Shop is nothing more than an interface. The actually transactions could proclude OSM completely.
I'll add c. to the list.
Cheers

Re: The benefits of extra designs in the shop
Whilst a percentage to OSM would be good I belive it would be easier if the transaction was as a donation from the UG to Joomla! rather than skimming a percentage from the top. That way the UG can ensure its viable and donate what it can afford.

Whereas I'm thinking about progressive economies of scale and how many UGs you can potentially start up based on region, locality and culture and what that means for turnover of stock. The more stock turnover inside the locality, the greater the benefit to OSM.
It also provides a guideline for what is a UG is and what a UG isn't. If everybody submitted a design and wishes to enact a.) or b.), OSM would be cut out of the benefits of logo compliance. Having the profit split ensures compliance.

Lawrence - *please* watch your word choice and *avoid* using fighting words!
I'll be honest - I am raising two kids and I insist they be respectful with me and I try to be respectful with them. I would be very angry with them if they spoke to me that way. I can't imagine the circumstances where they would!
I am believing more and more we need to add one rule and one consequence at the top of our forum rules. We need to empower the moderators to enforce that rule PASSIONATELY. I think we will find nearly everything fits into that category and it's time for Extreme Friendliness to be practiced. We are going to have a TON of new folks when v 1.5 comes in and we better know how to behave.
Rule: Be friendly.
Consequence: Leave for the day if you can't be nice. Try, again, tomorrow!
We cannot tolerate people discouraging one another with rudeness! It is an enormous time waster and it defeats the positive spirit that open source projects require to thrive! I consider that comment extremely unfriendly and very disrespectful! Frankly, I consider it rude that you are raising this very same question in three spots now on the forum in the last week. It has been asked. It has been answered. There is a community-wide process going on where we will talk about JUGs and we want your involvement but you have to stay positive and work with the community.
I realize my behavior is not the best, either, and, with this rule enacted, I will get sent home for a day from time to time, as well. But, if I talk that way in these forums to people voluntarily giving of themselves for our project, I would HOPE the moderators would give me a day of TIMEOUT to rethink the purpose of my visits and see if I can adjust my behavior to impact positive change or, at minimum, to stop dragging others down.
I am very impressed with the restraint shown here. But, let's not enable, either.
If this is off-topic, please delete. My apologies. Even send me home for the day if you think it's best! But, I believe we have to remind one another how important this is, and, Lawrence you CAN do better than that. I've seen it and I want to see it every time you post.
BEST Regards, Lawrence, now, raise the bar! PLEASE!
Amy (aka MamaJoomla!)

Mod. note ot2sen: @AmyStephen: Please stay on topic - or stay off topic. Thanks
No need for extra rules. Being friendly or lets say cortious is already covered by current set of rules.
And it shouldn´t be needed to tell users to stay on topic more than once, right....
