CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
**Yes I have solved this problem - sorta***
I am going around in circles. Every time I think I have found joomblog to download I end up back at one of the same two pages and the download links THERE lead me nowhere...
this is one of them:
http://forge.joomla.org/sf/sfmain/do/viewProject/projects.joomblog
this is the other:
http://www.joomlafreeware.com/
Original post/problem below:
I was told (by a moderator here) that Joomblog would be good to try out as a blog for my site, but I can't seem to find it here (the extensions site) and even after googling it I cannot track down a copy. I found a page for it at dev.joomla.org but can't find a downloadable copy. Any clues for me? Did the person that recommended it to me confuse this extension with another? Thanks very much to all.
ps: if this should go on another forum my apologies and please point me in the right direction to re-post

Re: Resolved - Found it - Can't find Joomblog (sp?) extension
Could you post your solution so that other users can benefit from it?
Could you please mark your first message in this thread as "solved" ?
(Modify the first message and choose the Message Icon [solved]).
This way the list of messages shows that the question has been solved, and other users can benefit from it.

Re: Not Solved - CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
Hi bbw,
Joomblog was listed in Joomla! Extensions Directory at one point but was unpublished cause it didn´t follow the Rules for being listed.
It was reported that when uninstalling some changes to core files was not reverted. Therefore it could not be listed.
Just checked with a fresh install of joomla! 1.0.12 and joomblog 3.0.
Extension works fine, but when uninstalling I could see that the modified joomla.php, some modified core modules and some modified administrator files was left in modified versions - and not reverted to original.
So you better test this in a test setup to decide if its right for your use, and have in mind that you could need some manual clean up if you choose to uninstall.

Uninstalling should revert any changes made to Joomla! source code.

Re: Not Solved - CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
Just a small note; do a search on this component on the forum. People are basically unable to restore there site after uninstalling it. My advice; do not use it!

Important small note
When I did the test it took quite a manual effort afterwards to actually get the installation reverted to original.
Manually had to replace these with original files:
language/english.php
modules/mod_latestnews.php
modules/mod_latestnews.xml
modules/mod_mostread.php
modules/mod_mostread.xml
administrator/components/com_categories/admin.categories.html.php
administrator/components/com_categories/admin.categories.php
administrator/components/com_content/admin.content.html.php
administrator/components/com_content/admin.content.php
administrator/components/com_sections/admin.sections.html.php
administrator/components/com_sections/admin.sections.php
administrator/components/com_users/admin.users.html.php
administrator/components/com_users/admin.users.php
components/com_content/content.html.php
components/com_content/content.php
includes/joomla.php
+ manually delete a (unknown) category and a (unknown) section.
+ manually remove 5 tables from database
jos_joomblog_blogroll
jos_joomblog_comments
jos_joomblog_config
jos_joomblog_header
jos_joomblog_ip
Re: Not Solved - CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
ot2sen - thanks for the link!!! shew!
And thanks to the both of you ot2sen and RobInk for the tips and the heads up. I will indeed test separately before making my final decision in case I DON'T want it and I DO have to uninstall... I will return and post my results and final decision...
Thanks so very much!
I'll be back

Solved - Finally found Joomblog to download
Ok Thanks to you guys I got the link where I could download the joomblog package. Downloaded the stable version and proceeded to "extract" the tgz file - that was a mess. Too much to explain here, but let's just say even though I'm no expert at tgz and tar files, I'm very familiar with basic operations such as extracting them, and this was a totally weird one, relatively speaking. Ok once I extracted down to what I thought was the correct folder, I installed using my new test site and that went ok. I went to configure the joomblog and got some sort of lengthy database error when I tried to save my config settings and could not get past that. Clicked on the tutorial link and THAT generated two different server errors. I think I will move on and try another solution! I'm new to Joomla but have not had one bit of trouble with anything else I've tried! But thanks to all for the help though and I'll be around!
later!

Re: CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
dunno if you've sorted out (or tested fully) the version of joomblog you mentioned in your first post but..
Here's a link to the latest ( ver3.0 stable )release(s) still lingering over on sourceforge.
http://forge.joomla.org/sf/frs/do/viewR ... omblog_3_x
Can't find much info on the original author other than his site is down and the domain joomlafreeware.com appears to be up for renewal.
As many others have posted, we've tried and tested more than a few flavors of 3pd blogs for Joomla, specifically looking for functions that allowed or supported multi-user blogs, viral content (trackback, comments, rss, social tagging, etc.) and found joomblog initially looked promising but strayed a bit too far from standardized joomla 3pd component best practices for consideration as a live site component.
Specifically, the version we were testing (v2.3rc8) added or overwrote quite a few core joomla files (as mentioned by ot2sen above) and, made de-installation of the component a bit too complex for the average joomla user.
I've tried emailing thenicespyder (original author) a couple of times but, I've not heard back so I can't say if he's planning or even still developing this component.

Re: CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
Thank you - I do appreciate that bit of info. I have nothing new to report from my last post as I ditched the entire experiment after hitting the snags I described above. I will download this version to test when time allows and thank you again!

Re: CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
I just started another post about this same issue...
Why .. because the download links in this part is now stale...
forge.joomla where the link points to does not work again ((since april 30))
I would like to try jomblog despite all that I have read about it... but I cannot find it anywhere..
Can some help me by sending an active link to download it
or worst case scenario send it to my mail box.
the link to the new post is

Re: CANNOT Find Joomblog to download
Here's a link for those of you looking for what the original developer *(the nicespyder) considered stable. Read my post above for disclaimers as I've nothing to do with either joomblog or the dev.
http://www.1guywebdesign.com/wp-content/uploads/files/joomblog 2.3 Stable.tgz
We/I have been considering taking up the redevelopment of joomblog (actually went so far as to rewrite a good bit of the front end and added a much needed enhanced admin area) but, work life is busy and at the moment I've got other commitments and projects that take precedence.
Hope this helps

humanknowledge:
just another 2cw from me - I decided to forego Joomblog (as advised!) and tried Mamblog - so far so good. Nothing fancy, but it does the trick for me/us. Good Luck
