Thanks for the link, but that didn't work for me either. It just times out. I visisted http://jext.info/ and picked it from there. I assume that Jext can be trusted?

That contains the core Joomla Application, and shouldn't be affected by the Joomla Forge Load, and should be available if the forge is down.

Sorry Ian that doest work either ;(

ianw wrote:While I understand that this is frustrating for everyone, there is only so much that we can do from an application management standpoint -- we can add more threads, however, without additional memory, that would allow more people to access the forge, but everyone's access times would be horrible, as there would not be enough memory to serve everything from memory, and a lot of swapping would occur.  Likewise, we can remove some threads, and the forge would be faster, but, we'd introduce more issues (network speed, cpu load, jvm constraints).

So more memory will solve the problem? If so let me know the type of memory and the amount required and I'll see what I can do.

it does seem odd that someone supplying a service for which they get agreat deal of publicity doesnt fix it.

It highly effects SVN access for developers (including myself who work heavily with the SVN)

Why such the down time all time? I have even considered potentially going to code.google.com to have my SVN access so that i can work with all my programmers on projects.

Any word on when or how this will be fixed?

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic ... #msg717278 was not a question about what is being done to fix the forge.

Keep your comments constructive please.

my dear brad...
can you define "constructive" please ?

Most of us are end users and have no way of helping you with the bad forge performance.
all we can do is report it and thats it...
so how can you ask us to be "constructive"..

Just a question Brad, are you capable of handling negative things...like news...or remarks. ?

I had some time this evening to do some test runs of different CMS' so that I could make a recommendation to the company I work for tomorrow. I was really excited about trying out Joomla! as I've played with it a bit in the past. It is quite a shame that the server has been down all day (my first attempt to grab the source file was made around 10:00 a.m. CST). When it wasn't down, it was slow to the point that the page would display half of what it had and navigating to a new page would then timeout. As a new user it really is frustrating and drives me to look at other CMS'.

Whether these comments are constructive or not, I see on this board alot of posts regarding the downtime of your server. That leaves me wary because if I can't access updates through FTP or SVN, then what happens when an update is available or I need to do a fresh build. Maybe I'm off base(and if I am tell me), but it really is a shame that there aren't mirrors out there so that this doesn't happen. I suppose that when it does come up again, I'll attempt to grab it, but for now, I'm stuck with recommending Drupal - since I was only able to test Drupal, Typo3, and WordPress.

The link I attempted to use was either:
http://developer.joomla.org/sf/go/proje ... joomla_1_0
or
http://developer.joomla.org/

[edit] I was able to grab the file finally at exactly 10:26 p.m. CST. It was slow, BUT, I was able to get it. I'll take slow over unresponsive any day of the week. Thanks to whoever or whatever fixed it. [edit]

Please be VERY careful when downloading from non-official sites. Imagine being in this situation: http://wordpress.org/development/2007/03/upgrade-212/

Well that was when they downloaded from the official site.

Until the joomla team nd VA realise that not being able to download is a real problem people will need to download joomla from other sites.

If you do then you should be careful and do an md5 check on the download. thankfully at least the md5 values are available on the main joomla site at http://www.joomla.org/content/view/2496/95/

Its completely beyond me why joomla itself is not there as well for download off a reliable server, where the host understands what it takes to manage a server etc

Come on VA this is looking really bad on you!!! Eeryone knows that the server is yours and managed by you. It looks bad on you and your shareholders.

Hi,
Sorry my first post on the forum is moaning....I too have been trying to get onto forge.joomla.org with no success for about 24 hours :(
All I wanted was a copy of the "Content Item Module" ...can't be more than 200k...but no luck.

If the problem's with the server trying to run all these JVM threads, surely having a mirror of all the latest files without any advanced functionality would be a good thing?
It would take some load off the struggling server and make the whole thing more reliable for normal users.

...probably been said before, but thought I'd chip in.

Love you guys btw  ;)

Hi,

Do u get any response from VA about this or are they ignoring u.

Maybe its time to build a number of "official" mirror sites to get redundancy, this clearly shows the effect of having a single point of failure.

Lets hope that this problem will be solved.

Finally found what I was looking for at extensions.joomlaspan.com ....so my panic is over. Still, official mirror would be good!

hello

that's cool, it' now about 7 days that i try to connect to http://forge.joomla.org, noway, now is down for maintenance, its ok even if i loose a lot of time, i may suggest that publisher post alternative downloads links on their website too, user and developer cannot expect on ONE web server with - million ?- connections every day, i may just ask why they are not mirror web site for downloads as many opensource distribution web site do ? Also i have seen that developer post downloads links on their website, links that point to http://forge.joomla.org...useful !!!

here an example :

go to http://extensions.joomla.org
then go to project home page on http://www.theprojecthomepageyouchoose.com (if is not already on http://forge.joomla.org)
then click on downloads link that bring back to http://forge.joomla.org

but what is that ?????  :)
