News from the Forge administration area

Post by Tonie » Thu Aug 10, 2006 7:34 pm

Joomla Forge has been up for almost a year now. Lots of projects have been started, some very succesful. There have been a few changes in administration lately, which is what this post is about.

Security

Since a few weeks, we are looking more actively at security in combination with projects that are hosted on Forge. The source of information will be the list Robs compiled: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,79477.0.html. We will contact the developers(s) in question and try to come up with a gameplan. This might mean that a project is set to "project member access only" until the security issues are resolved. We try to take into account that some projects have forked and might have the same security issues.

The second part of security is projects that also distribute Joomla in some way. If these projects distribute a Joomla version that is known to have security issues, communication with the developer is also opened.

Empty projects

There are quite a lot of empty projects on Forge, some of them dating back to the start of Joomla! Forge. I've compiled a list of empty projects from the starting date until the end of last year. The developers of those projects will reveive an email soon if the project is still alive, if it is not the project will be deleted.

Help

When you have any questions or remarks about Forge or projects hosted, please contact me in this forum.

As i stated before. Do not host the latest releases and latest updates on the forge alone. Create a backup. The forge is down to often and updates and the download of Joomla are primari for the website.

We have opened a ticket with VA, who is hosting Forge for us. Hopefully there is something that can be done about it.

There haven't been any changes. We're working very hard behind the scenes at the moment to deal with this, and hopefully get good uptime again soon.

Uh, I don't think it's up. It seems access is a matter of trial and error. I just got the JCE mambot 1.1 beta but couldn't get that or anything else after that.

I've been trying unsuccessfully for the past few hours to download modules and components. Is there an ETA when it will be working again?

Thanks!

??? This is pretty sad. The forge has been down how long now? My first thought was to go to the individual project sites. Sad thing is that most of the projects refer back to the forge.

Wow this is pretty bad.  The forge is still down and MOST of the extensions link straight to it.  It's rather annoying when all the ones you want to work with are hosted on it.....I just tried downloading JCE WYSIWYG Editor, JEvents (calendar) and RSGallery 2 and all are based off it, so I can't put them onto the site I'm currently building.

From the date of the first post it's been 3 months now.....any idea how much longer the site is gonna be unavailable?  Perhaps Joomla admins should be telling 3rd parties to host on mirrors in the meantime, wouldn't that be the right thing to do?  Not everyone is gonna realise what's going on and getting frustrated when they can't download components/modules they are looking for.....

Any idea where I can get the 1.0.11 to 1.0.12 patch without forge?

I have to say that considering that this is an open source project Joomla! has some of the best support of any software provider. You guys ROCK! Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for the prompt response on the downloads.

The weekend has started, we should be ok for a few days. This will give us some space again to arrange things.
