Why do I need to register twice?

Post by blunder » Thu Mar 22, 2007 9:41 am

Hi!

Why do I need to register twice? I mean, why do I need to regsiter once for the site joomla.org and then once here in the forum? Is that not the purpose of having the Joomla CMS, that everything is integrated? Are there no forums that are truly integrated into the CMS?

[Moved from General Questions to Sites & Infrastructure]

I guess that, because of the huge traffic, both sites are on different servers.
And because of the huge traffic on the forum, you do not want to use any bridge (Joomla - SMF integration) that causes extra queries.
Furthermore the userbase for both sites probably might be somewhat different.

The reason we are not using one of the SMF bridges, is that we wanted to keep things as simple as possible. Joomla! has grown at a really fast rate since it started, this is one of the ways that we have remained flexible for our websites. Easy to patch, easy to maintain. It's not perfect, and hopefully we will one day have on user repository for all Joomla! websites and forum.

So if I expect that my sight might grow I shouldnt use joomla? I mean, this kind of scares me. If you guys cant get the combo of forum+joomla to work, then how should I? :) Should I be concerned or are there examples of sites out there runing high-traffic forums/sites on joomla?

Talking about other sites. As a part of the purchase decission it would be great if I could see more examples of people using this software. Then i can form a picture of what they are doing and if it applies to my site as well. Ideally i would love to see different types of sites. News papers, Music downlaod sites, video review sites, etc. Do you have such a listing or could people share a couple sites with me? Maybe you shouold just create a forum where people can plug their website?
