Hey Joom-Fam (Joomla Family?...maybe that's a new website to consider....hmmmm...)
I'm looking for a Joomla Bible Component that use at least KJV. I want the component to be all inclusive. Leaving a Joomla site to go to Biblegateway or any other online Bible website is unacceptable. I want my users to stay on our site. It would also be nice if there was a 'search' bot for it as well.
I've already check what we have here in the Forge, but nothing gellin'....
Having something like this is worth paying for as well. If anyone knows of an all-ready-made component, either GNP or Commercial, could you please share the information.

Re: Joomla Bible Component
I've been doing a little research. I'm not a programmer (code that is)... but I'm wondering if the right person can use the following information to create such a Bible Component
Bible-data-base http://bibledatabase.com/html_bibles.html has a free / downloadable HTML Bible what they give permission to republish on your own website.
e-Sword.net www.e-sword.net has free database driven modules for it's e-Sword program. These can be downloaded and disected as well. The developer, Rick, is a very personable man and would be glad to help with such an project. BTW: e-Sword is by far the best computer based Bible program I have ever used. My entire church uses it now and ever Minister/Pastor that I have introduced it to uses it now.
Translatum http://www.translatum.gr/bible/download.htm also has a free downloadable Bible that is in txt. format.
I've also found a few websites with multiple languages.
So if we took the .txt files and put them into a database, could we proceed from there?
I know that this type of component would help every church website out there. Any ideas guys?

Re: Joomla Bible Component
Okay, you want a Bible component, but to do what?
If you get the full bible downloaded and have access to it, what do you want your site visitors to do with it?

Re: Joomla Bible Component
A Bible component should do the following:
It first would allow you to have a word search like this one:
http://www.williambranham.com/component ... Itemid,59/
This guy is using a wrapper of college site. What this is missing is a actual Chapert / Verse imput. You should have these fields as this university does, but you should also be able to go directly to the scripture / passage of your choice by typing in another field something like this: John 3:16 (which would show you that verse) or John 3:16-30 (which would show you that entire passage).
I've seen it done for Joomla once but in contacting that person, they responded with:

Hi there Michael,
The component I use was gathered, changed and made to fit my requirements.
I did originally started that at the request of another church site.
As I do not have or made an installation script for that component it is not
very feasible to make it available.
Also, there might be copyright on some of the script that I have changed but
I do not have the original authors listed anywhere. Thus for my own use it
is OK, for others that might be doubtful.
I am surprised that a search on the web does not bring-up links.
Greetings
Chris

end here

His site is http://www.sengers-au.com/Portal/compon ... Itemid,41/
He has done almost EXACTLY what I want. The difference being that a person should 'ALSO' be able to just type in a field: Gen 5:3 and it'll take them to the verse. So...there should be multiple options but all pulling from one database.

Re: Joomla Bible Component
I'd consider doing this if my todo list didn't already stretch from here to infinity If someone wants to take it up and just needs some direction with developing components, contact me.

As far as I can see that can be easily done at his/her site.
You can enter the book, chapter and verse and it will give the correct page and position on the page.
I have seen, somewhere, that includes his com_synaxarium AND the kjv bible.
Also, his synaxarium component has links to passages in the KJV Bible in sort of the same way.
Somewhere I also read that he was disappointed that, despite promises, some of the religious sites that do use his converted scripts, did not keep their promise to at least mention his involvement with these scripts.
Maybe that is the reason why these components are not available?
Re: Joomla Bible Component
Doesn't Biblegateway.com do something like this? I am looking for the Good News Translation but have not been in luck so far...
