Hey Phil!

The latest talk was to have the Joomla! event somewhere around it360, which will be held on April 30-May 2 (it360.ca).  Nothing more solid than that has been decided at this point.

Welcome!  I grew up in Burlington and live in Mississauga now!

Hey people,

I'm going to be going over the scheduling issues this week and expect to be able to announce a Joomla Conference in Toronto at the Centre for Social Innovation (http://www.socialinnovation.ca) at the end of April - trying to do it on April 28th & 29th so people in town for that it360 gig can hit it up afterwards...

Stay tuned for another post later in the week

Hi folks,

as we have now more and more threads talking about Toronto Joomla!Day or other kind of meeting I will merge those threads.

For the info to all:

Michelle applied for a Joomla!Day in Toronto and is in charge of it - current plan is to link it to the it360 conference in April.

Hi all,

is this now a meet & greet or a real Joomla!Day?

Basically the Joomla!Day is a bit more including some presentation and discussions. That's why I'm asking. I don't know if it is still possible to organize a bit more Joomla!Day like event - tell me.

Yes.  It is still happening.  Please see the above.  There will be no cost for the event, though you are welcome to make a donation to the Joomla! project.

In order to gather information, are there any particular topics that people are interested in hearing a presentation on/discussing?

Maybe someone that is really up-to-date with 1.5 can give us a demonstration of how the new version is different/better than 1.0.12?

I had a great time Tuesday night at Toronto Joomla!day. There's a short article and a couple of pictures on my website.

If you are able to go Wednesday make sure you get down there and say hello to the Core Team Members manning the booth. I was able to buy an official Joomla! t-shirt from Michelle. There's not many left so get there early!

I would also like to express my thanks to the Joomla! team members for their dedication to the event and to the community's growth.  The presentation team did a terrific job of highlighting how community driven and community oriented this project is, and it was refreshing to hear Joomla! members expressing their firm beliefs that Joomla!'s growth is a reflection of its members who give back.

Thanks again for a great night and for the overview of 1.5's compatibility with 1.0x.

Good Morning Everyone!

Thanks to all that showed up at the booth and the get together we had on Tuesday! I was under the impression that Joomla! in Toronto wasn't all the well known, and you all proved me wrong! We have a fairly strong community here with a large base of websites that are either currently in use or on their way to being developed!

It was great to chat with current users in our community and the hype and "virtual cartwheels" people were doing knowing we were there representing J! It was also very cool to talk to some people that seem to want to start using J! in their projects. I'm sure I'm going to get dozens of emails to my GMail account in the next few weeks.

I really enjoyed my time there and being able to discuss where we were and where 1.5 is going to take us. I'm very sure I saw some "light bulbs" click in when people relized how powerful J! really is and where they could take either they own websites, company websites or even intra-net.

I look forward to the inevitable J!UG that will start up and look forward to coming by the meets as I can. For those organizing, remember that I'm always willing to come and talk with you as I can, and maybe even semi-regularly.

Again, thanks to all that dropped by, and thanks to Levi, Michelle, and Ian for a great couple days!
Thank you for calling the GOD department. What Now?

Hey!

I would like to echo Jay's comments!

It was great to see some of the flesh and blood users who are working with Joomla!  I have spoken to many users on the forum, but rarely get a chance to meet in person actual users.

It was great to meet the famous (infamous?) JoeJoomla and the response from users was encouraging.

It would be great to see a local user group begin out of this initiative and I would certainly be interested in participating in such a venture.

Open source, in some ways, really is a mystery - at times it really does baffle my mind why there are so many people who are willing to help produce software for free, voluntarily, on their own accord.  It is so easy to take all this for granted, and to forget about the times when the Internet was something only used by big universities and the military, and all we had were 1200 bps modems to connect to BBSs.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Toronto Joomla! community become larger and to see Toronto become a bigger player on the Joomla! map!

I'd like to echo thanks to Michelle and Levis who came from out of the country :) (j/k) to be at Joomla! Day Toronto and organized the material for the booth and many of the logistics.  It was great to meet Jason and to see the enthusiasm that I'm sure he shares with the rest of the development working group.

So here's to Joomla! in Toronto, and here's to looking forward to working with the community to make Joomla! 1.5 not only the best written, but also best documented and best marketed CMS with the best community, both locally and across the world!
