Hi all,

I would like to set up a Sydney User Group, so let's have a first meeting on Weds 28th February, 6.30 in the CBD (venue t.b.a.). All very welcome, whether you have Joomla! experience or not - if you're interested, come along and say hello.

If you are interested in attending, please let me know directly by emailing dinah [at] dinahrandall.com. I will confirm the time and venue.

Since you are reading this, please forward it to your Joomla! networks. Anyone interested in Joomla! for any reason is welcome to attend.

The first meeting will be just to meet and introduce ourselves, and to set up topics for a second meeting, which I propose to hold during Sydney Linuxworld Expo [pencilled in as 27-29 March t.b.c]

i am Melbourne based so unlikely to be able to attend or assist directly in any way, however, for the Melbourne J! Day we produced a CD Give-away that you are more than welcome to use and tailor for your own purposes.

Hi Brad,

I was thinking about your very kind offer to Skype in... I wonder if we could ask you for some top-tips on how to prepare for version 1.5? Is that poss?

I am by no means a Joomla! expert and I dare say I'm not the only person very keen to see 1.5, but a little bit trepidatious about upgrading all my sites to it.

Sydney meeting next week is confirmed:

We will meet on Weds 28th Feb from 6.30pm-7.30pm at PJ OBriens (pub) on the corner of Clarence St and King St in the Sydney CBD. See here for location map:

Well thanks to all 4 of you who showed up at the meeting! It was great to emerge from my isolated cell and actually meet other Joomla! people.

We talked about our various experiences - what we do, what works, what doesnt, what our thoughts are on moving to version 1.5. We also talked about how we use Joomla!, just why it's so great and what add-ons we rate most highly (JACLPLus, JCE, amongst others). And the joys of writing templates.

In any case, discussion was very lively and I enjoyed it a lot!

Watch this space for the next meeting (Thursday 29th of March - hopefully at a quieter venue!) and news on Sydney Joomla! Day, coming soon to a ....um.... Sydney near you.

Topic: Planning Meeting for the Sydney Joomla!Day on May 2nd.

Hi all

If you are reading this post-Joomla!Day, I have had a lot of people show interest in meeting again, so I am scheduling our next meeting Tuesday June 5th from 6-7pm. This is a pre-announcement, before we have a venue and presentation organised, so you can put it in your diary. We will meet the first Tuesday of every month.

Venue t.b.a (any ideas? somewhere central where we can actually hear each other would be nice)

This event will include:

6:00 - 6:15 networking
6:15 - 6:45 snapshot presentation and questions [topic t.b.a]
6:45 - 7:00 decide topic/speaker for next meeting

If anyone would like to speak at a future meeting, on any Joomla! topic dear to their heart (e.g. showcase a site, a component, a problem/issue resolution) then please contact me. It's your meeting!

I would like to talk about SEO optimisation issues for joomla, page rank with joomla within the google search engine algorithms, and how to implement this into your joomla system. I think this could be relevant to websites looking for a decent page rank using the joomla system.

Mindiam - yes, if you'd like to talk about SEO, let's chalk that in. Lovely. Does the following meeting (Tues July 17th) suit you? I've just been hip-deep in SEO issues myself - preserving SEO ranking on migration to Joomla - so I'd be keen to hear your ideas too.
