Is vJoomla eligable to be listed in the extensions directory?

Post by mlmorr0 » Mon Jun 04, 2007 5:32 am

I've finally reached a release candidate version of vJoomla, and I'm wondering if it can be listed in the extension directory because it does contain a not-insignifant number of code changes to the Joomla! codebase (which I'm hoping I can avoid when I write the version for the Joomla 1.5 codebase).  vJoomla adds Joomla's functionality to an existing vbulletin site.  It isn't written with the reverse in mind - adding vbulletin to Joomla.  As such the package and it's installer install Joomla from scratch into a vbulletin database - finding the vbulletin forum.

All of the code for this project is being released under the GPL, although vbulletin itself is not open source.  In compliance with Jelsoft's License Agreement regarding extensions and modifications the distribution of vJoomla is limited to http://www.vbulletin.org and the code can only be downloaded from there if the user has a valid vbulletin license.

From what I've read on the extensions directory I'm guessing this version will not be permitted due to it's changes to the core code. It is my hope that the next major release which will be concurrent to Joomla 1.5 will be installable as a component.

Hi mlmorr0,

From the description you provide this doesn´t sound like an Extension for Joomla!, and not even to be considered a tool.
Sorry, this script will most likely be rejected.

Very well.  Extending question though. I've already began reading the Joomla 1.5 API.  I am *fairly* certain that the version of vJoomla that will be compatible with Joomla 1.5 will do so with no code hacks. If this is successfully accomplished will it be blocked from being listed since it will have an antecedent product that violates the rules?

If the hypothetical new version was faithful to the rules then that wouldn't be a problem.
