Joomla Forum Registeration Problem

Post by iamdumbo » Sat Aug 11, 2007 5:49 pm

Okay guys. So i am the dumbest of all or atleast it looks so... I have heard a lot of good things about joomla and do agree with them. However my very first experience on joomla site was pathetic...

I tried registering with joomla forum. Every time i put my username, i said, "the words you are using are censored"....lols....i used  my own name..... at last when i dint get anything, i tried putting randomly and my first input "iamdumbo" worked  :D ....

I obviously dnt like this id. Are the moderators aware of this issue or can anything be done to change my username as the forum rules doesnt allow you to have more than one account.

Please comment on the issue, specially mods and admins.

Regards,

Kshitij

We'd be happy to change your username, however, please can you come up with another one that does not contain a swear word.

That name i am requesting is my real name in the local language (thats Hindi). It is spelled like that in English. So its kind of thing i will never prefer to change.

I hope you understand.

I do understand, however as an international community, we'd like to request you choose another 'nickname', one that does not contain a word that in english may be offensive to some.

Thanks.

Okay.

Fortunately or unfortunately, I am back.

Brad, i have choosen a good name this time "Dick_Cheney". Seems to be non swearing word to  Joomla's "International" Forum Community.

Btw, your name username is "Brad".

Take a look at the url below, how come you be here with this username.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bra

Could any of the admins take privilege to explain me that, i would be very thankful.

This thread was started by me. Read thru again.

You may be having your name in the dictionary site, but still it contains a word which may be offensive to some people. You are on an international community. This is somewhat similar situation i had with my username where i was denied a username of my choice, whic is actually my real name, but your international community doesnt considers so.

My point here is that when my name can be censored, why is it that you have a swear word in your name?

*sigh*

Are you here to get help for you Joomla website, or just to argue? I'm really sorry you feel offended, but it's not a big deal to choose a username within the parameters of this forums rules.

Ok, i'm done with this argument.

Brad,

I really bowed out that time. But somehow i could not digest all that. Rules should be for all. The definition of "swear" here is hurting a particular fraction of people. I am sure there are thousands of people who, if try to sign up with joomla forum will have this kind of issue.

I can understand your point this being a global community. But as you can see, it is not accommodating the needs to people around the globe. Censoring is no doubt a good thing to keep the community clean of non genuine users, however censoring a word in-between a word is really gross thing. As you can see, your name also contains a 3 letter word that can be( and really is) offensive to many people. At least to this part of globe. Surely, the policy of censorship fails as clearly this is hurting a fraction of people.

I am not here to be against you or something like that, but to justify my stand and to give you an instance that what has happened to me is not fair. Rules should be for one and all.

I would therefore recommend to the forum development team to either, put off this validation or accommodate the users around the globe.

Perhaps if you explained in more detail...

Why must your user id contain the censored word?
Why must the censored word be contained within brackets, thus setting it off from the other parts of the user id?
Why is it important to highlight the censored word within brackets?
What is the meaning or definition of your user id?
What is the meaning or definition of the censored word?
What is the meaning or definition of the other parts of the user id?

Okay.

There you go.

1. Why must your user id contain the censored word?
>> That is my name, "K s h i t i j", which is in our local language. The name implies, "horizon".

2. Why must the censored word be contained within brackets, thus setting it off from the other parts of the user id?
>> I am not at all willing to use that censored word within brackets. I understand that it is a misunderstanding. I used those brackets to show the mod, the complete and the username i want because if use them without brackets, it replaced that word with asterisk. No other reason. i dnt need those brackets at all. (By now i have figured that i can used to space to avoid replacement with an asterisk ;)

3. Why is it important to highlight the censored word within brackets?
>> answered above in point 2.

4. What is the meaning or definition of your user id?
>> "K s h i t i j", as i told you is my real name implying "horizon". "Ahuja" is my family name/second name.

5. What is the meaning or definition of the censored word?
>> Everybody knows that.

6. What is the meaning or definition of the other parts of the user id?
>> same answer as point 5.

I hope i am justified by now.

But, can you make it a point to justify allowing the word "Dick" my current username?
Meaning of dick : http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/dick

I dnt want to go head to head with you, but i am sure you can see, it is offensive word to, almost every part of the word. If you cant allow the earlier word (S**t), how come you allow "Dick"?

Anyways, at the moment, i am concerned more to this username that is associated with my real name.

@dick_cheney
I understand that your name is genuine.
It is just impossible to make an exception in this forum, because of the way these forbidden words work.

Now, this thread gets on the trolling side.
Therefore, keep your name as is, choose another name accepted by the forum or... just go...
