Re: We're playing with dimdim tonight
Hi there! When you suddenly say like that to join is it for a special subject? or just to warn that there are a lot of people at this time?
I suppose you could tell a bit in advance if there is something special discussed ALthough I know of course everybody can't join but at least if warned more people can...
Oh sorry apparently there was a post to say so hehe
Next time I'll try to join!

Re: We're playing with dimdim tonight
We generally don't know in advance what specific thing we're working on. It just happened that we were working with dimdim and wanted others to play too.
@Matt we are on just about every evening. Please do drop by and join us when you can.

Re: We're playing with dimdim tonight
Hey folks;
Sorry about missing you all Sat/Sun.... Wife and I both were having some sort of stomach bug Glad to have two working bathrooms Never even got a chance to boot any system......
Anyway was any decision made on the Presenter application and any luck on the creating of a self guided recording?
Larry

Re: We're playing with dimdim tonight
Hi guys,
We've been tinkering with dimdim and a couple of other ideas. So far the one that works the best is a combination of hamachi vpn + vnc + skype.
We're hoping that we can figure out how to record the meeting for later consumption but right now that's not proving easy.
I've set up a monitor on my linux machine that can capture the skype audio and vnc video streams separately but then there's the hassle of merging the two.
There's nothing really to do right now except some research. Perhaps finding other solutions for us to try would be helpful. Otherwise if anybody has some experience in video/audio mux and editing, maybe we can solve that part of the puzzle.
What we REALLY want to do is imitate the drupal-dojo folks. They are somehow able to stream video, audio, and iirc chat all in one browser. They also record the sessions and make them available for download.
Amy is going to contact them and see how they are set up. We are trying to reverse-engineer it but so far we've met with only limited success.
That's about it. I'm personally hoping to get this running before J!Code gets released. I'd love to have our pilot be about getting that great IDE up and running.
If anybody knows about any open source web conferencing software that you would like us to try, please let us know. Together we will get this ship afloat!

The needs are as follows:
Anyone who knows of a free (and preferably) open source tool that can do the above, please post link here.
Thanks!
- live streaming of full desktop
- live audio at least from presenters mic
- recordable to some mm format on-the-fly

Thanks!

Re: We're playing with dimdim tonight
I sent a note to Drupal Dojo folks tonight, too, hoping we might get a little time on Skype with them.
@dartagnan32 - someone is ALWAYS out on the Skype line and you are welcome to pop in.
We all have ADHD - so, we end up doing whatever Scott dreams up for us at the last minute.
Ian hobbled up a perfectly good Linux box because Scott said so.
Get this --> Scott had me installing .NET v 3.5, IIS and SQL Server! Well, technically, he didn't know any of that was going to happen. But, it did. And, I wasn't going to be beaten voluntarily. But, in the end, I was still beaten. Thing is, after hours of it, I really didn't care anymore. About anything. At all.
So, we do stuff like that and would love it if you joined us! Any of you - ALL of you.
See the Skype FAQ for "how to" and find a spare machine - Scott will find something for you to install.
Amy
PS - Hope this wasn't forum harassment.

Wow Amy, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! Just wait 'till you see what I'm cooking right now! It's gonna blow your socks off!
So no more dimdim for now. Doesn't look like it's going to work for us.

Yea, sadly, Dim Dim is dead. But, things look pretty hopeful in other areas, huh, Scott?
