Introducing an Extension

Post by jalil » Tue Sep 04, 2007 8:57 am

How does one go about introducing an extension to the Joomla! Community the easy way ?
Is there a place one can just upload the extension and description and be done with ?

I'm nearly done with my first component, and realised i don't know these things. I know Joomla! Extensions Directory but the complexity scares me, and this coming from someone who is writing a component...heh

it's a 1.0 series component...better to start with.

i still have issues with J1.5 with the screen for articles selection for a menu going way off my screen area, and i was advised to change to firefox...duh ! this puts me off a lot, especially after all the excitement of the super duper screens. luckily J1.5 is not recommended for live sites....one would have to be brave to put it live.

i can't understand why basic issues are not dealt with in J1.5, but maybe there aren't enough people paying attention to it. would gladly help if a full true picture of 1.5 development status is available, but maybe i'm the one in the dark.

anyhow, after coding for 1.0 extension, i think coding for 1.5 would be fun. the 1.0 lays the platform for practice coding and given the  more 'solid' 1.5 core services, it would be quite easy for one to upgrade their extension from 1.0 to 1.5.

and in doing a component, i also noticed that many routines, functions, that are useful, are not easily extended to application developers, meaning developers could not 'call' these functions, as they are used by the core only. this is a pity and a waste. i can be more specific if anyone is interested. i see lots more avenues for Joomla! to be developer friendly, is these core services are made available to developers, by only minor changers to the core codes.

thats it for now...ta guys.

3 ways

1. Open Source products for Joomla (GPL AND free) forum http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,46.0.html Read instrctions in sticky.
2. JED (all licenses, free and commercial, no templates) http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... ddlisting/
3. News site (all kind including templates) http://www.joomla.org/component/option, ... Itemid,75/

EDIT: link corrected.

The links for 2 and 3 are identical. Perhaps a copy/paste error?

Yes, the link for the JED submission is wrong. Here is the correct one:
2. JED (all licenses, free and commercial, no templates) http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... ddlisting/

Don't forget to choose the right category. You can also find "add your extension here" link under each category in JED.
Joomla! Extensions Directory - http://extensions.joomla.org

Håll utkik efter svenska joomlaföreningen som håller på att bildas.
