Supported extension

I didn't even know this extension existed untill now, but well, now I found it: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

However, I thought bridges between Joomla! and SMF was not allowed at the time on account on the change of ..,whatnots. So, is this extension still supported, or shouldn't it really be there at all? Because the way I see it, if bridge isn't even allowed anymore, it should hardly be accessable in your extensionselection.

Who said bridges were not allowed? The extension you link to is GPL, why not use it?

There was another non-gpl smf bridge that has been withdraw, that may be where the confusion comes from.

Hi Brad,

Interesting post. My understanding was that this (and any other) bridge is actually NOT a GPL component. This comes from the fact that the bridge connects to a non-GPL software (SMF). Therefore, the bridge is not GPL as it is a derivative work of something not GPL (SMF asked that their licence be respected). Which in turns makes the bridge unusable with Joomla.

Am I wrong somewhere ?

As a side question, is there any decision made / position taken in terms of allowing / removing non-GPL extensions from JED! ? is this more a long term thing ?

Following that link, the answer I got in a thread dedicated to this very matter is : "no one knows. We should inform JoomlaHacks, and they talk to us or SMF". Thread was then closed consideraing this was an answer. So basically no answer was found.
From a quick search at Joomlahacks forum, it seems to be confirmed that the bridge is indeed making many calls to SMF code, and not only working on data, so in my mind that makes it non-GPL compliant, and therefore not-GPL.

WHich brings me back to my question : any news on policy for JED regarding non-GPL or GPL compatible extensions ?
