Maybe a 'Bug Fixes' download area

Post by chucknet » Fri Dec 01, 2006 5:03 pm

This is more of an idea then anything. i know there is a forum post about the bug fixes and when you go there and or do a search for the post you get into it and there are links in links to different post to get to the download.

but i was thinking maybe having a download section for just Bug Fixes and or Security fixes.

might save some people time on triing to find the fixes.

maybe put a link to the forum post that discusses the particluar fix to give people the idea of what it fixes before they implement the fix.

just a thought.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am, however, a bit confused. All out downloads are hosted on the forge. Each of our releases is extensively documented on the forum as well.

sorry wasn't trying to confuse. i know they are documented and very well, and they are on the forge. i was just thinking maybe a little section in the extensions section that had links directly to the fixes themselve versus going through the forums.

don't get me wrong you guys do a hell of a job supporting and stuff here just was thinking for say the may joomla package not so much as the individual 3rd party components and modules like the :

joomla 1.0.11 updates and fixes
joomal 1.0.10 updates and fixes
and so on...

but either way it is kewl for me just thinking maybe easier for say someone who checks say your download area more then the forums.

Well.. Joomla 1.0.x is the version.. so that means anything less than the current stable (1.0.11 as of today) is insecure and out of date. Basically, that means we don't support any versions prior to the latest stable.

Hi chucknet, if I got you right, you are talking about single patch files for specific bugs? Like for bugs which were found in 1.0.11 and got fixed in SVN? If that's the case, there are several reasons why we don't do that:

  • The fixes usually have not been tested completely, they all need to go through the Q&T process.
  • It's simply not possible to put up a patch for every single bug that got fixed due to our limited resources.
  • It would slow down the development process drastically. You would have to wait even longer for the next version.

I hope I understood you right.
