The new site and forum is fast...!!

From this end, the new site is running really good. Much faster than the old pulling up content. Both site and forum.

Yes! A combination of SMF and a Dual Opteron server.. means we are whizzing along nicely. Thanks for noticing.

Nice to hear brad,

Is SMF that less resource intensive as vBulletin? I was wondering how many visitors the main site is getting a day at the moment.

SMF is less resource intensive than vBulletin. And 1.1 is even better than 1.0.X as far as I can tell.. :)

I'll get some stats together on a regular basis when we get through this busy time period.

The icons on the topic pages are a little hard to decipher but the rest of the forum is an improvement imo. The speed and especially the toned down appearance are especially nice. thanks.

I agree.
When we settle down into 'normal' operations, we can look at tweaking these little cosmetic issues.

Also it should be mentioned that the SMF Team have been kindly helping us and other members here get used to SMF and get the most out of it, so a big thanks to them.

Well, i can say for myself that i like SMF better than vBulletin from a user point of view.

I've had a look once in the vBulletin backend but found it a bit of a mess. I'll have a look at SMF later this week to see how they've done it.

Well SMF Admin area is faster than VB admin area.

However VB Admin area 'seems' to have more functionality, even if its sometimes the locations are not intuitive.
I could be wrong as I am still familiarising myself with SMF

Dual Xeon's perform nicely. We run both Dual Xeon and Dual Opteron servers. We have seen about 30% better performance out of the Dual Opteron boxes, especially when it comes to intensive database tasks etc.

Yes, the SMF development team have been most helpful. We have already applied a couple of database tweaks on this forum to increase performance based on recommendations from them.

I'm glad to be of service :).  Most of the people at Simple Machines think well of Mambo (and its developers) and of course we believe in supporting people who use our software.

As to the icons, some people have complained about them being less-distiguishable than desirable - this theme uses the same icons for topics as the default theme.  These icons are often different among different themes, and are fairly easily customizable.

I always have more suggestions ;).  It's running pretty well, but those load averages could be an even smaller number :).  I might also warn you I see 416 zombies, which is somewhat alarming (but might be a temporary issue or mistake.)
