Hi all!
Just wanted to share with you all, about our non-profit website, using joomla..
I was in San Francisco for 8 months, helping The Pachamama Alliance migrate their static HTML pages, to a Joomla based website, and we also did some customisation work on developing an events system with the help of Picnet, to manage the distributed events that regularly happen throughout the community.. (Picnet rocks if you need any help with Joomla by the way!!!!)
The Pachamama Alliance, based in San Francisco, works with the indigenous people in the Amazonian Rainforest (primarily in the region between Peru and Ecuador). Because of the work they've been doing for the past 10 years, there are areas of the rainforest, that are now legally owned by the indigenous people, who never before had legal rights over the land they lived in. To give some perspective, without the support of The Pachamama Alliance, those same areas of virgin rainforest would have been exploited by oil companies by now, had it not been for the external help and support..
As part of the mission, The Pachamama Alliance was requested by the indigenous people to go back to their world, and change it, so that the source of the problem was addressed, not just the symptoms... Taking on that challenge, The Pachamama Alliance has developed a symposium, called Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream, which looks at some of the causes behind the world we've created, and how by making different choices, we can start to create differently...
You can check out both websites at

Both run on Joomla!!
