So, as I organize the NYC JUG, I noticed a couple other local groups had discounts for members at various bookstores.
So I dived in and checked out a few publishers:
OReilly User Group Support
They give you
35% discount for members
They will send you books on request to place in the JUG library, all they ask is that you review the books and post the reviews in the appropriate places(Amazon, O'Reilly, your website, your newsletter, etc).
They will arrange for speakers who are visiting your area to come and speak at your meetings
A place on their site to advertise your meetings
And they will send you free products of some sort(?) to give away as door prizes, raffle off to raise funds, etc
Packt Publishing
They give you
??% discount for members

(for starters they offered to send me every book they have on Joomla)

Apress Publishing

??% discount for members
They will send you books on request to place in the JUG library, all they ask is that you review the books and post the reviews in the appropriate places(Amazon, O'Reilly, your website, your newsletter, etc). Their deal is they will send you one book at a time to review, once you review and publish the review than you can request another book
As I gain experience with how these 3 work, I'll post back on how it works out as well as other groups I find. If you have gone this route, let me know.
Personally, this dovetails nicely with my own plans, as I was going to start a JUG library with books I'm no longer using. We can pass them around, review them, exchange info, etc.
