In 2003, following the development in recent years of a number of initiatives in the most varied environments, both in highly evolved health systems as well as in less developed ones, the need to form an Association was felt. Medicine Dialogue Communion (MDC) was thus set up as an interdisciplinary, intercultural and non-profit association, led by an international secretariat.
The objective
The association wants to contribute towards the elaboration of a medical anthropology inspired by the principles of the spirituality of unity, which animates the Focolare Movement. In this perspective it seeks to redefine the meaning of the life and dignity of all persons, the value of the human person, and the health–illness relationship in a personal and social dimension. MDC wants to contribute, together with other existing initiatives, towards a scientific Humanism, able to promote an idea of science and medicine based on constant respect towards the human person, one’s dignity and integrity, one’s body, spirit and culture.
Initiatives
MDC favours the exchange of experiences pertaining to the professional field on an international level, and promotes initiatives with a cultural character such as meetings, conventions, exhibitions, write-ups for medical journals and so on, at a regional, national and international level. These activities are promoted on its own initiative as well as in collaboration with other organisms and entities which are inspired by this anthropological vision.
