Quite cool. I like the background shining through the content section ...

Have you thought making the cells around the content (left, right, bottom and top of the page) manually with a white HTML-Background? This way the background flower rudiment (or whatever it is) would really stay just behind the content.

I also like the idea you had with the style of the redirection-page (different shade stripes). With some thought you should be able to spin something around this. These are very unusual colours and I would have never thought of them, but actually give a nice effect.

Have you tried to put something like:

RedirectMatch permanent ^/index.html$ http://www.earthdance.org.au/mambo/index.php

in your .htaccess file on root (probably public_html)? This is the way you can re-direct to your homepage in the sub-directory folder straight away.

nice tip on the redirect... interesting how different we see the colours of the redirection page... i used the colours only to make the page a tad more interesting instead of flat.

The reason its redirected like that is cause others also have earthdance websites on that host too...  but your way would work also.
