I guess we haven't been any good economical supporters, so this was needed to run the show further.  ;)

There were always G ads on mamboserver I think..
With so many visits..
And even clicking the ads generates revenue ;)

Why couldn't we put it somewhere, where nobody could see? Hide it behind the header or something...  :'( Don't like it.

P.S.: I would give for Joomla, but neither do I have a credit card or anything else accepted by pay pal america nor do I have the money... (Hackwar is a poor student...)

I don't really mind the ads but maybe you could make an option to hide them.

I guess you're using AdBlock or something

AdBlock is an extension for Firefox wich blocks... Ads! So if you really don't like the ads in the top you can always install it.

Yep, using adblock (forgotten I'd had it, tbh).

Ah yes, there it is. Google syndication = unpopular.

Good ole Adblock!
Anyone know how much the ads on the Mambo forums used to bring in? In the back of my mind I seem to recall criticism over there about them and I thought the dev team here didn't like them. Might just be confused as well as potentially blind though ;)

Wonder how many of the people who are complaining about the ads have in fact made monetary donations to Joomla! ??

Its nice to be pure of heart but unfortunately, money makes the world go round  ;)

We don't really know how much the ad's with Mambo brought in. Miro never really openly disclosed it to us. We will however let you all know how much revenue is generated by the ads on our sites though.

I don't mind them, I think that they blend in well with the overall look of the site.
They are 'above the fold' and full width so fairly intrusive, but hey there is no point in showing ads if you don't want anyone to see them.
I just hope that they can fine tune the ads being shown. Unless they get a better fit with the content on the page, then I don't see them being that cash generative, and ads on forums are notoriously unproductive. People glance right past them to get to the info they seek.

But there is no harm in 'sucking it and seeing'.

It will be good after a month or so to better determine if adsense is a good way to raise money for expos etc etc...

As we stated before, each month we will post amounts for funds raised/donations etc etc.

Yeah, I noticed :)

Unless they get a better fit with the content on the page, then I don't see them being that cash generative

Yes, two of the ads for this thread were for ringtones.

Well, ads eh?

Interesting for a couple of reasons.

  • I would say that 99.99999999% of the content here is made for free by us (*cough* look at core dev posts *cough*). Does this mean they will be adsense sharing like Joomlaya used to be? :)
  • We aren't allowed to have anchor text in our sigs as its seen as too advertising heavy (I think that's the reason). Double standard?

None of the Core Devs who donate their time free receive the revenue generated from the Ads. All goes to OSM and is used to fund/support Joomla/expos/promotions etc etc.
