You can receive posts to a SourceForge discussion forum by "Monitoring" the forum (click on the check box by the forum name and then click "monitor"). All new posts will be e-mailed to you. If you reply to the e-mail, your reply will be posted to the forum.
Use "My Workspace" -> "Monitoring" to set per-project application monitoring to receive notification of newly started threads etc.

SourceForge Tip: E-mail and Discussion Forums
Rich people are eccentric. Poor people are strange. I just aspire to be moderately odd.
Re: SourceForge Tip: E-mail and Discussion Forums
1. How do I monitor projects for news, not just forum and file releases? I can only find "join this project"...
2. What does "join this project" do? Will people expect me to be able to contribute to the project?
3. What is Authorization Keys in "my settings"?
4. Can we have button that makes you monitor everything for a project? Receive a notification for news, forum posts, file releases, new reported bugs etc?
5. Any news on file release monitoring even before releases? Say if a project is called "accessibility", and they will release bots and modules that do different things - I am still interested in all. It would be good to be able to be notified for everything a project releases.
So far the new site seems very promising for the project admins, which of course is most important, but as a user who just wants to download and be notified (yes, leecher ) I feel a little lost...
Looking forward to the categorized views! I think http://www.hotscripts.com has very informative/reasonable categories.

Re: SourceForge Tip: E-mail and Discussion Forums
1. Unfortunately there is no way to monitor project news at this time. A feature to consider for SourceForge developer team.
2. Given the nature of open source projects, you have "view" access to almost all aspects of a project without being a member. Project members have additional privileges (such as code checkins, creating releases, etc.) In the end, the project admin gets to decide when to grant a membership and what's expected of the members.
3. These are SSH public keys that are uploaded SCM boxes. Typically you need this if you are a developer to avoid repeatedly typing the password.
4. Well, there is no single button but something that's close enough. But this works only if you are a member of the project. After logging in, (when you are in your Workspace) select "Monitoring". Select the project you want to monitor, and in the "Monitored Applications" tab, select "All Applications" and set Save. That should do it.
5. If you monitor a "Package" you will be notified of all releases as they are added to the package, even when releases are modified. The structure of FRS is (Packages have one or more releases, while releases have one or more files). Another way to monitor FRS changes is to monitor the entire application (see 4 above, you can select to monitor specific application instead of all applications)
Hope this helps.

Re: SourceForge Tip: E-mail and Discussion Forums
The discussion forums don't seem to be searchable?
For instance, the "base" for AKReservations is the forge - the developer has chosen to use the Forge forum as "the" forum for his project.
Problem is - I normally use searches on forums to find out if a problem that I'm having has already been solved. I can't seem to search within the AKReservations forum at the forge - instead, I have to read through every topic.
But I'm not a techie - and I'm sure there's a way to search within individual forums, and I just haven't found it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: SourceForge Tip: E-mail and Discussion Forums
feature request:
while monitoring a discussion forum, the option to be emailed my own posts.
this is convenient for a number reasons:
this is mainly wanted for the discussion forum, but would be a convenient option to all of the monitoring tools.
thanks again for bringing us the forge. i look forward to seeing the enhancements that are to come!

this is convenient for a number reasons:
- sometimes i post through the web, sometimes i just email.
- searching through my inbox is currently a lot easier than searching through the board (and perhaps will always be)
- viewing emails can be done offline
