I tried to send a personal message through the forums here today and was denied? Is there a moderator/admin that can explain this for me? is it a security settings I'm missing or do I need to be approved to send PM's to other members at forum.joomla.org?

It is probably that the person you were trying to send the message to has either chosen not to recieve PM or that they have reached the max number of messages in their maibox

You can only send PM's once you have a minimum of 5 posts as well. So yeah, either what Brian, said, or what I just stated
